Do Europeans outnumber Americans living in Hua Hin ?

Post by Mongo Slade »

Just noticed that there were lots of Europeans residing in or visiting Hua Hin.....my observation, I could be wrong.

Will someone give me their take on this, as I'm curious to know

Does it actually matter ???
Did you think it is an Americal colony and if not ask George W to invade? :guns: :guns:
Hua Hin is a great place no matter what the mix is. A few less agressive tailors would not go amiss though :thumb:

Infact most americans and canucks i have met there have been closer to my age and were just passing by backpacking, all great people. And the older crew have been brit and euro also all good people, infact i have to laugh cause im aussie and often i have euro doods speaking to me in some sorta euro dilect before they work out i only know how to speak english and nit noi thai.

No Kraka it doesn't matter, allow me to reiterate, just curious to know!

Most of the people that I've met there were very friendly and helpful to me. Wherever I travel, it's with an open mind. I respect people from all walks of life. I know what its like to be discriminated against, especially in America.

Thanks Olmate, for not jumping to conclusions like others on this forum. I noticed that you've taken a beat down on some of your previous post also.

I haven't seen many Americans in HH or anywhere in Thailand for that matter. Many more Europeans and Ozzies.

Most Americans in Thailand either have Thai wifes/gfs, are left over from the Vietnam War, or have something to do with the computer industry.

One reason is it a LONG flight. From SFO it is 10 hours to Tokyo, then a 2 hour layover, then 8 more hours to BKK. Pretty much eats
up a day. For a tropical vacation it is easier to go to Hawaii, Mexico, Central America, or the Caribbean. And that is where Americans are starting to retire, especially Mexico.

So here I am channel surfing and come across a Thai program on the Asain TV network. Tours of Pattaya, and Thai pop songs. Songs are in Thai, but the narration is in English.

Well it looks like our trip over this year will be mid-Sept/mid-Oct. I'm going to avoid the relative ritual in BKK and head down to HH for most of the month

us to invade hh

Post by bill »

Recent mystical vibrations from the "high command"aka bugs bunny suggests that a full blown invasion of huahin is currently being planned by the American Army involving over 600,0oo crazied ex- combat veterians, lawyers, media mongols, ladyboys and government employees. The US will land these unwanted via helicopters and huge, ugly bloated american women. All of you farangs will be shot on sight, thai people moved to bkk and the entire town plowed over and covered with cement and broken glass. Rap music will be played all day from giant speakers and no one will ever be civil again. We Americans pledge to screw up your fair city beyond hell and back. I suggest hh ban all Americans, except for me i have a very sophisicated-disco attitude and like fried bugs.I shall return after a short 2 year jail sentence to beatiful hh 06-12 and look forward to meeting everyone except for you.

There happen to be five of us Americans, here in this moobahn, but I'm sure that's an over-concentration. None of the winter snowbirds are from the USA, but two couples are Canadian (Vancouver islands), so the flight once a year is not like mine used to be from Houston.

I don't get out enough, but when I do, there seem to be more Brits and Continentals than estadounidenses. Why is there no standard word in English for citizens of the USA? Even 'North Americans' covers about twenty nations.

Anyway, I'm glad to be here, rather than there, and no, I never voted for G. W. Bush, even if he'd been running for dogcatcher. :)

Actually it is pretty simple. We are Americans, Canadians (eh), Mexicans, Salvadorans, Guatamelans, etc. We all just happen to live on the North American continent. It is no different than the Thai that just happen to live on the Asian continent.

Americans tend to be concentrated around the old B-52 bases, Kohart being one of them. And there are no bases around HH that I am aware of. My wife and I just stumbled on HH since it was a beach resort close to BKK (VIP bus = $3US+/-).

I'm not sure we want to get into GWB bashing on this thread -- it is way too easy.

So my wife talked to her brother that has a business in Japan that I am helping to finance. It looks like my HH ETA is Oct. 1 -- way too far off but at least a date.

Mongo it is called humour. It would seem American humour can be a litttle different to Brit humour. As for Olmate taking a beat down we all have from time to time. I have had stick as I live in Wales and have had lots of sheep jokes as have some of our members from Australia.I think Chelsea has had that. When I have been to America I have found most of the locals to be nice ordinary people as I'm sure you would find if you came to the UK. :thumb:

Tokyo to BKK is 6 hours flying time and 2 hour time change. I'd say if you rustled up all the expats actually living in Thailand (not part year visitors), yanks would represent about 25%. There a many more up country and in Issan than along the costal areas. For some reason it seems they like to live near the airbases where they worked long ago, Korat, Udorn, Ubon NKP, Takhli etc. What does surprise me is that many, many are still with the same Thai wife they married 35+- years ago. Good on 'em. Vietnam Relic Pete

Cobra Gold 2006 just concluded. It was going on throughout the country from May 16 to 26. Joint military training exercises held yearly, American, Thai's Singaporeans, Indoneasians and many other "observer" countries. This is a yearly deal going back decades. As far as I know there are no active duty US military stationed in Thailand "officially"...except perhaps for some of the communication listening stations scattered in the northeast and north. Again, most of these stations go back to the VN days.
