That was one part I did enjoy, must admit....PeteC wrote: ↑Sat Jul 27, 2024 1:34 pm One thing that amazed me was the robotic horse and rider coming down the river for a long distance, on some kind of powered board skimming the surface. I haven't researched if that board was self propelled, or if it was being towed by a lead boat that was out of the camera shots. It was moving at a good clip. Very original and unique.

Do people still read Asterix? Is the current generation familiar with the character? I hope so. I've just wiki'd it and new stories are still being produced. I used to love the comic books, though it's a long time since I saw one. Immensely clever and very funny. Much funnier in the original French, and understanding the puns is a pretty good indicator of how good your French is.404cameljockey wrote: ↑Sat Jul 27, 2024 7:34 am Papa Smurf made an appearance, is he French? Surely for France Asterix would have been nice...
I wonder if they're on z-library...?

^ Loved the comics/books years back - admittedly not in French. Thought they had long finished..... Wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't a box of them in my dear old Mam's loft space still.

/\ One thing's for sure, if it was in London they couldn't have used the River Thames in the opening ceremony as it's full of sewage dumped by Thames water

[EDIT] I think "Asterix at the Olympic Games" is an appropriate one to start with!

Anywho...

Indeed - though I wouldn't fancy swimming in the Seine either!

I miss the days when Eurotrash was a late night show the adults could laugh at. Now it's front and center of the Olympic Games, exposed testicles and all.

Really? We've got great coverage on AIS with 24 channels. Having seen the post, I switched to beach volleyball - I actually thought you guys were watching whilst wearing your dirty old men's raincoats. FFS, it was men's beach volleyball - I apologise for thinking such demeaning thoughts about you both.
Not such a damn fine call in my opinion

Now, now - when you have things were you can pick the Sports/Events of interest Live or on Time Delay, you could have watched the Women's Event... Italy vs Spain was quite the spectacle.
I can't speak for DM's preferences though....
