"Climate change: Thai wet season starts in February"
A big area of high pressure over China is forcing what should be a northeast airflow down into the south China sea. The result is the strong prevailing winds are from the south east over the ocean, thereby collecting moisture, rather than over the land mass of Cambodia and Vietnam.

Bloody Chows, interfering with the weather!

I'm just back from Market Village. Plenty of flooding/big puddles. I think you need a boat to access the Circle from Soi 94 this morning.

Looking at the condo behind my house this morning, and everybody was bailing out their balconies. Never seen that on such a large scale before.

A very welcome distraction from the normal weather at this time of the year - I can already see signs of green appearing in my neglected “lawn”.

The Soi 94 weather station is unavailable for comment as it usually doesn't open until 09.30! Image

Edit: it's about to smash it down, visibility to the South is down to about 1km, very low cloud

Rain STARTED AT 0945 and only stopped at 1400 giving a reading of 37ml in Hin Lek Fai

If you look at the satellite, radar, Windy or whatever you like, it looks like a rainy season pattern. There are storms everywhere up to Korat and down to Singapore.

Edit: Except they are coming from the wrong direction.

Listening to the rumbles of thunder over the sound of the Old Trafford crowd, I'm assuming round 2 of attrocious weather is about to begin.

I will give a rare thumbs up to the Hua Hin planners when it comes to drainage.

Not too many years ago, floods like those occurring this morning would have taken a couple of days at least to clear. Recently although we still get heavy flooding, once the rain eases off it's usually dissipated in a couple of hours.

Soi 112 is a classic example. It floods badly at the Pechkasem Road end including the soi's on either side. Even after the rain stopped, along came the heavy run-off from the hills. That was the norm for the next 2 or 3 days.
This morning 112 and the Soi's flooded as expected but once the heavy rain eased off, the floods vanished quite quickly.

I've been here for over 20 years and I'm sure other long time 'residents' will remember the chaos back in the day.

I’ve woken up to heavy rain - it’s just gone 6 in the morning but assume it’s been raining for some time - is this a one-off or signs of things to come?

Well according to the weather forecast (if it's to be believed) We've got this until the middle of next week at the earliest.

I was actually referring to the long term weather patterns rather than the current rainy period.

I’ve been watching a lot of David Attenborough’s programmes of late and he’s been highlighting the impact of global climate change, where almost every region in the world is being impacted - some by drought and others by floods - one things for sure is that the climate is definitely changing!!
