Suspects meant to kill Israeli envoys, says Thai official

Suspects meant to kill Israeli envoys, says Thai official
The three Iranian suspects in the Bangkok blasts are an assassination squad targeting Israeli diplomats, including the ambassador, a senior Thai intelligence official said yesterday.

One of their many methods was to attach magnetic bombs to diplomats' cars, the source told Agence France-Presse on condition of anonymity.

The source and AFP did not give details on who or which countries were behind the suspects' plan to strike against Israeli interests in Thailand.

The report corresponds well with foreign analyses pointing to an act of state-supported attack, or evidence being gathered indicating terrorism, but Thai authorities were attempting to play the incidences down both on Tuesday when they occurred and again yesterday.

An arrest warrant has been issued for an Iranian woman, Rohanni Laila, who entered Thailand on the same day as the three male suspects now in Thai and Malaysian police custody.

The Bangkok South Criminal Court has approved arrest warrants for all three male suspects following prescribed criminal procedures. They can now be placed under Interpol, if necessary.

Wichean Potephosree, secretary-general of the National Security Council, at a high-profile news conference yesterday said the attacks were not sabotage and not related to last month's arrest by Thai authorities of Lebanese man Artris Hussein, who has Swedish nationality, as a terror suspect.

The local blasts had no connection with similar attacks in India and Georgia, he said, although Israel has said they were ordered by Iran and had common links to the incident near Sukhumvit Soi 71 in Bangkok.

"The US statement did not link the incidents in India and Georgia to the ones in Thailand. It only said whenever the incidents in other countries occurred, it indicates that the attacks could still be conducted in similar fashion elsewhere," he added.

The second suspect, Mohammad Hazai, 42, was caught at Suvarnabhumi Airport late on Tuesday when he was about to board a flight to Malaysia.

The third suspect, Masoud Sedaghatzadeh, 27, managed to escape on an AirAsia flight, also on Tuesday evening, to Malaysia. However, Malaysian authorities yesterday detained the Iranian man at about 3pm in Kuala Lumpur at the request of Thai authorities. The suspect was about to leave the Malaysian capital for Tehran. He initially booked a February 25 flight for the Iranian capital.

Earlier deputy police chief Pansiri Prapawat said Sedaghatzadeh departed Bangkok for Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday afternoon.

Asked why Thai authorities were playing down the attacks and their likely links to transnational terror operations while foreign governments and media channels were indicating otherwise, Wichean did not answer, appearing grim and tense.

National Police chief Priewpan Damapong said separately that the use of explosives in Tuesday's attack was "similar to a bomb incident in India".

The three Iranian men were plotting to kill certain individuals but not to destroy any structures in Thailand, |he said, giving no sources of |information or analytical reference.

I actually don't see what all the fuss is about. How do we know Iran is trying to build a nuke - just because western inspectors have said so? The told us Saddam had WMD as well
Saddam himself claimed to have the weapons (just to intimidate his neighbors) until it was too late to back down. After all, he had used said weapons on his own countrymen in the past so it wasn't that hard to believe him.
Why should a handful of countries be allowed to possess such weapons in this day and age, and then kick up hell when others want to follow their example?

Answers welcome, but please think before you reply
Uh... let me see... could it be because the leaders of the "other" country in question have publicly stated (more than once) its desire to violently wipe other countries off the face of the earth and nuclear weapons would allow them to follow through on that desire? :?

Iran is making the same mistake Saddam did by their threats and brags. If someone says they are going to kill me, I have a tendency to believe them and react accordingly.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

Yes HHF, I do understand what you're saying, but so far the US is the only country to have used nukes, and it didn't take them very long to make the decision to do so either. Whether right or wrong, whether for good or for bad, America seems to have been involved in every major type of war during my life. Personally I don't believe Iran would try to nuke Israel, since they know what the consequences for such an action would be like. Also, like I said, I don't don't think any country should be entitled to own such weapons. As long as the super powers have them though, other countries are going to want them as well..........it's just human nature.

I kind of agree with that statement, although I think it should be qualified by adding that those other countries are more likely to be those with certain political/ideological/military ambitions - there are plenty of states who have no desire to go nuclear.

It is a fact that the US is the only nation to have used 'the bomb' but a bit of a red herring in this discussion. It was a different time & context after 5 long years of Total War. Horrific as it was, it saved hundreds of thousands of lives and probably prevented the total extermination of the Japanese race, which would have been the end game of a conventional invasion of the Japanese home islands, requiring an estimated 5 million allied troops.

Agree witb Jaime, Iran supply terrorist organisations with weapons in which to fire into the country for which they've declared they want to 'wipe the regime off the map'. It tells you something when even Russia & China have condemned them, and voted FOR Security Council sanctions. 3 rounds of ever-increasing sanctions too!! On an issue that could end up a real threat to Russia & China... they stop playing the usual 'superpower' games in the UN.

Iran ARE non-compliant with the NPT, they have failed to comply with the 'safeguard' requirements that demonstrate enrichment is for peaceful purposes. Hence the IAEA are unable t procedures.o verify the peaceful nature, nor declare it for non-peaceful intention either.

Iran DO NOT have the legal right under international law to be enriching for peaceful energy purposes. That right is conditional upon verification of a central aspect of the NPT they signed in 1968... compliance with the safeguard procedures.

China & Russia are unconditionally in agreement with the US, Euro, Israel on this.

Looks like the bombers were hardly the usual pious practicing Muslims anyhow. Seems they were having a good time in Pattaya with booze and hookers prior to their escapades in Bangkok. They've (Thai cops) found some floozy and her mates that had been "escorting" them around.

This was distorted by the press of the 'free world'. He said, the occupiers of Jerusalem will be wiped from the pages of history.
Saddam was invaded because he was selling his oil in Euros, not dollars, follow the time line of exchange rated before NATO and the other terrorists illegally invaded Iraq.
Iran also sells its oil in euros and gold, the US don't like that so any excuse to strike will do.

Everyone seems to have forgotten about Iranian scientists being murdered around the globe, now I'm sure it isn't Iran killing them,

I've pointed this out several times to those who keep spreading this 'disinfo'. Maybe they can explain why they persist?
Saddam was invaded because he was selling his oil in Euros, not dollars...
This is an important aspect rarely discussed. It's called "dollar imperialism". The U.S. can't afford to allow the rest of the world to move away from the dollar. So it hammers countries like Iraq (and soon Iran) to keep other countries in line.

http://www.thirdworldtraveler.com/Iraq/ ... _euro.html

'The fact that billions of dollars worth of oil is priced in dollars ensures the world domination of the dollar. It allows the U.S. to act as the world's central bank, printing currency acceptable everywhere. The dollar has become an oil-backed, not gold-backed, currency.'

Those goddam 'CTs' get everywhere...

"This [the Iraq war] is just an excuse to get Iraq’s oil."

Everyone seems to have forgotten about Iranian scientists being murdered around the globe, now I'm sure it isn't Iran killing them,
They also seem to have forgotten that wars of aggression are International war crimes, that killing civilians is a war crime, that torture is a violation of the Geneva convention, that targeting civilians is a crime, that using banned munitions is a crime and that everyone who supports these acts is no different to the Nazis.

They brush all this aside to focus on BAD Iranians, who don't yet have nuclear weapons, and sympathize with 'good' Israelis, who do (but they would never be the first to use them), when we watched them 'Blitzkreig' Gaza. We forget the lies about Saddam. Lies about WMDs and lies about Iraq being behind 9-11 and STILL give the Empire and its captive media, the benefit of the doubt.

Beats me.

Yes, the Iranian Foreign Minister confirmed that Admadinejad was referring to wiping out the Israeli regime. Seeing as the only real way Iran would be able to do that would be with a nuclear missile, I don't think it will help the people much if it was intended for the Knesset only. But the point is that this clearly stated intent, together with their known sponsoring/arming etc of terrorist groups, it has set alarms ringing with the whole world, bar a few like-minded states.

Iran's neighbouring, and fellow Muslim, states have all voiced concern, and it's quite telling when even China & Russia support the U.S./West/Israel's concern on the threat. China & Russia, despite their usual ties to Iran, have voted for the various UNSC resolutions telling Iran to stop enrichment until they start complying with the Non-Proliferation Treaty they agreed to. China & Russia also voted yes to 3 rounds (I think it is) of sanctions imposed on Iran due to their non-compliance... which some CT's claim is an 'act of war'. They have been lying, hiding & refusing to co-operate for nearly a decade. Russia have said Iran have failed to take the opportunity given them to demonstrate their program is for peaceful purposes, a pre-requisite that affords the right to nuclear power.

Can't see how you can reach that conclusion with respect. Saddam sold in Euro's through the UN's oil-for-food program where he had to request permission, and was given permission by the (US-controlled)UN. They could easily have said 'no'. Venezuela had already started selling in currencies other than dollars years before Iraq invasion, even before 9/11, they produce & export more than Iraq, and the U.S. relies on their exports more... so why didn't they create a crisis nearby in Venezuela if they were so concerned?

And in any case, the U.S. did not change Saddam for a new government that would comply with them over oil, the fiasco with the US' new oil law (that would have helped the US win the contracts), was not approved by the new government... while the U.S. were surrounding them in the Green Zone. They had a regime their under their noses defying their oil demands and it never bothered them enough to do anything about it. If they were in the business of invading countries to secure their oil they could just drive across the border to the Central & South Amercian countries. Venezuela alone produces 50% MORE than the U.S. imports from the wole of the Persian Gulf combined.

Do conspiracy theorists really believe that in a country known for executing their gays, it could never kill a few scientists in order to frame their enemies... but do believe the U.S. can kill 3,000+ of their own in order to go to Afghanistan & Iraq for a decade only to comeback with less oil than before they went

Conspiracy theorists crack me up

See this is why I am worried..The lack of proper direction for job training and skills. It seems like a bad idea to have someone with anger issues becoming a bomb makers. Or is that just me. But in all seriousness Karma is a bitch..excuse my lingo..

Latest news:
Thai police seek new Iranian bomb suspect

Saturday, February 18, 2012

BANGKOK: Police in Thailand said Friday they were hunting for a fifth Iranian suspected in a failed bomb plot in Bangkok that has sent tensions between Israel and Iran soaring.

The tourist magnet has stepped up security following Tuesday’s blasts, the third bomb incident to shake world capitals in less than 24 hours. Tehran has denied Israeli charges it is waging a terror campaign against the Jewish state.

Arrest warrants have been issued for four Iranians, two of whom have been detained and charged over the botched attack, which came to light after an apparently unintended explosion at a Bangkok house on Tuesday. Now police are compiling evidence and witness accounts to seek a warrant for another suspect whose whereabouts are unknown.

One offshoot of this, which has been mentioned in today's BP, is a massive tightening on issuing visas to aliens.
