My problem which I think is common to many is too many bushes and trees. I don't have one spot, except straight down the driveway, where one wouldn't be set of continuously when the wind blows. As all this stuff grows what is a good spot now may not be in a few months. :( Pete
Pete, I don't think bushes and trees will set them off as they use body heat (passive infra-red detectors).

Moderator: I suggest moving most of the content on this thread to another related thread or new one altogether so that concerned residents of Mountain Vill can use the thread as it was intended, to discuss Mountain Vill and actions to take.

Eh!?, so someone breaking into my car would reflect badly on home alarm systems :?
I'll let you have a stab at this one ......
a) I started alarms BEFORE we got burgled,
or
b) I started alarms AFTER we got burgled.

See you are unable to answer the question about how elderly people can defend themselves against a couple of burglars.

what i was referring to was your attitude towards the theft and also that you put yourself in a position to have your laptop stolen. imo not a very good advertisement for someone in the security business.
if your laptop was stolen before or after you started your business is irrelevant, it's your attitude that is wrong.
as regards to your other question i cannot answer other than an elderly person should try never to put themselves at risk.

SJ, that all depends on what the elderly people have at hand to use as an aid in said defense...
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

I wasn't in the security business when I had my laptop stolen!?!?
What attitude was that then? That I stopped thinking about my stolen laptop after a few months, that was in reference to elderly people should not take on armed burglars IMO for the sake of a DVD player and a TV. Seems a sensible precaution for them to take IMO and not expose them to harm. Your 'get out your bedroom and stand up for yourself and your family' is the wrong attitude IMO.
as regards to your other question i cannot answer other than an elderly person should try never to put themselves at risk.
Exactly.

Image Ok, back to topic please, lets keep nicked laptops and electric fences for a new thread and this one on burglaries on the specific development.

New thread has already been started: http://www.huahinafterdark.com/forum/ho ... 13049.html

Leaflets

Post by scotian007 »

Lippy or other resident: Are you in Hua Hin now? It would be good if someone could distribute some leaflets around the estate asking if they'd like to support paying for some guards, or maybe get hold of email addresses?

Hi Scotian

Not there at the moment.

There was a Resident Co Ordinator distributing regular updates to some 20 + residents E mail addresses included. I will try again and make contact and request that we put this to the vote concerning security guards.

Im back out there in October and will speak to the girls in the office and the developer to see if we can share the costs.

Communication seems to the main problem here plus we need someone who has the TIME to organise this. Once set up then maybe residents could pay the office girls if appropriate!

At the moment things are quiet but I know this wont last!

There must be more Residents using this Portal ???

What happens if an alarm is activated when the occupants are not home? Does a siren scream for hours or maybe weeks if out of the country? Neighbours would not like that.
Do you have a monitoring service where a guard with keys attends?
Thanks
Hi Oz, the siren sounding duration can be set from 1-99 minutes, most people opt to set for just a few minutes as it's loud as hell in the dead of the night with a red flashing light. After the siren has stopped after 'x' minutes the system automatically reverts back to 'armed' state, so if someone can back in the house after hiding behind a wall or something then the siren will go off again.
We don't have a central monitoring service, there's been no demand for it. People usually leave one of the arm/disarm remote controllers with a neighbour or estate management/security if they trust them. It also has a phone line connection, so you can set it up to call through an alarm alert to a landline or mobile number if you wish.

As it's a wireless system you can take it from house to house, useful to people who rent. God I'm starting to sound like a salesman now which I've always hated

Cheers,
SJ
SJ,

I'd certainly be interested in having a chat about your systems. I'm over in Hua Hin next week hopefully to sort out the transfer of ownership etc. on a new property. In the short to medium term, the property is going to be empty as a) I am living and working in China and b) it's a new development so I think regular rental is a good 18 months away.

Pete.
