By far the best place is luknam(bottom of the hill to elephant village). They play thai music with a few farrang tunes thrown in. The musicianship is good and the beer is cheap. If you go you will be one of only 4 or 5 farrang in the room but don't let this put you off,its a top night out.

Samorian Pub. It's been there for years tucked out of the way a little.

There used to be a place with good live music right across from the Hilton (I think it was the first door on the left side on Bintabat, or was it Selecam?).

It may have been open only during high season and I don't know if it is still there as I haven't been in that area for a while at night but it was good the times I went there, and always full.

I can't remember the name but outside it kind of had a western (cowboy) theme.

Samorian is a good little Thai pub. The drinks are a bit cheaper than Luknam with the same kind of music. 11b on the map.

There's also El Murphy's on the corner of Bintabaht/Selakam. Its an enclosed aircon place and the band play mainly 60's-70's rock covers.

Luknam every time

If you ask the bongo player (boss?) he'll play the odd request  :thumb:

I really miss Rockestra. Used to be in town but moved up towards the Pala Hu road. Is it finished now?

The Pala U road site burnt down some time ago. I don't think it moved elsewhere after that.

Rang Rockestra was a great musician and a great guy, famous in the late 60's and early seventies. His venue had 3 separate main buildings, and all burnt down at once. He wouldn't pay 'protection' money. I wish I could track him down.
