By far the best place is luknam(bottom of the hill to elephant village). They play thai music with a few farrang tunes thrown in. The musicianship is good and the beer is cheap. If you go you will be one of only 4 or 5 farrang in the room but don't let this put you off,its a top night out.
I agree luk nam is tops good music and cheap beer/whisky.
As stated you will be one of a few ferrang present which makes it all the more reason to go in my book...
Maybe you can help me Randy. A few years ago i ended up in a place somewhere behind the grand hotel which was a kinda poor version of luknam.Do you know of this place and what its called. Due to the alcohol consumed that evening i'm struggling!!!!
Thanks will give Luknam a go, are there any other places that are worth a look at that perhaps play more western rock music, I read somewhere that the Hilton hotel have disco's of some sort, are these still going ?
There used to be a place with good live music right across from the Hilton (I think it was the first door on the left side on Bintabat, or was it Selecam?).
It may have been open only during high season and I don't know if it is still there as I haven't been in that area for a while at night but it was good the times I went there, and always full.
I can't remember the name but outside it kind of had a western (cowboy) theme.
If you ask the bongo player (boss?) he'll play the odd request

It’s none of my business what people say and think of me. I am what I am and do what I do. I expect nothing and accept everything. It makes life so much easier.
Rang Rockestra was a great musician and a great guy, famous in the late 60's and early seventies. His venue had 3 separate main buildings, and all burnt down at once. He wouldn't pay 'protection' money. I wish I could track him down.
