Re: Thai Driving License

I renewed my license before it expired. I have read many times about having to let it expire but had no problems renewing for 5 year several days before expiration. Guess we have the right connections through a friend who knows the lady in the office. Well TIT, what is a hard and fast rule in one l...

Re: AVG / Advanced System Care

Didn't mean to offend anyone, just sharing my experiences. Yep, pay triple Yes, you do pay a bit more for Mac hardware, not triple, but more for sure. But not the software. Just as an example I bought a Macbook Pro and with it I purchased a copy of "IWorks" (3000 baht) which is similar to ...

Re: AVG / Advanced System Care

Sorry guys, I used to use all this stuff as well, constantly updating this or that and cleaning and scanning.........then I bought a Mac. Don't deal with any of that stuff anymore.
Once you go Mac, you will never go back :D

Re: Terrace 90 restaurant

I had the Chili cheese burger the other night. The burger was good.... tasty, fresh bun, good value. The only negative comment would be the fries, obviously Makro frozen type, not crispy.

The fries are not a show stopper though, I like the parking and the general atmosphere, will definitely go again.

Re: Thai Driving License

One other thing, when you do go to re-new your temporary 1 year license, you must wait until it is expired. One day past expiration is ok, but you can not re-new and get the 5 year license before that.

Re: Property - Proof of Ownership

Yes, as PjG states, you will never "own" the land, only the house and your receipts and contract is all you will get. If you decide to sell in the future, you will sell the property and the buyer will be in the same situation as you, buying a house on leased land. Not entirely sure in a le...

Re: Telephone fixed line

To update, TOT arrived today (Sunday) and installed the line. They did in fact string a new dedicated line right from the main road (1km) so I think 8600 baht is very reasonable.

Re: Buying an registration of a car in Thailand

So I think the best advise is to give it a try in HH (or where ever you live) and if they refuse, don't despair, just try the next place down the road. One great thing about Thailand, a no in one place may be a yes in another :D

Re: Buying an registration of a car in Thailand

This can be done with the yellow house book or with a letter from immigration. This policy varies widely depending on where you are in LOS......as with most things :D In Koh Samui I had no problem getting a letter from Immigration, in Songkhla they flatly refuse to issue such a letter. Not sure wha...

Re: Telephone fixed line

Yes, on closer inspection I'm pretty sure the line is about 100 meters from the house. That is if they simply tag onto an existing line. If they need to go back to the main road that is closer 1 kilometer and I doubt they would do that for 8600 baht.

Re: Telephone fixed line

OK, here is what happened. TOT has come back with a price of 7000 baht to run the line to the house. However that price is if we use them for internet service. If I want to use Maxnet, it is 1600 baht more......

I choose the 8600 baht option......I don't want to be locked into TOT.

Re: Telephone fixed line

Yes, it is all very confusing......I went to a TT&T office as I don't believe there is such a thing anymore as TTT, now called Maxnet or 3BBB. It seemed that after I get the telephone line from TOT, I will then be able to go to Maxnet to get ADSL internet on that line.....at least that is what I...

Re: Telephone fixed line

Well.....went to TOT and applied for a line and they will come and check to give an estimate. Then went to TT&T and they said that they can not do a line in the area we are in and that we need to visit TOT.......around and around we go.
