Telephone fixed line
Telephone fixed line
We are in an area in Hin Lek Fai that will require running of a line 3 or 400 metres to get to the house.
What is the situation with phone lines? Are all the lines owned by TOT? Do you have an option of TOT or TT&T to run the hard wire? If I get TOT to run the line, can I use Maxnet ADSL?
In Songkhla I have a TOT phone line but use TT&T (Maxnet) ADSL. but this was in an existing house.
Thanks

Re: Telephone fixed line
Both TT&T and TOT are operating in the area, I live there too and I use TT&T/Maxnet for the telephone/ADSL.
Re: Telephone fixed line
Thanks for that Norseman, so I guess I go see both to get a price estimate and go from there.
Re: Telephone fixed line
Well.....went to TOT and applied for a line and they will come and check to give an estimate. Then went to TT&T and they said that they can not do a line in the area we are in and that we need to visit TOT.......around and around we go.
Re: Telephone fixed line
Strange answer from TT&T or did you go to Triple-T instead?
Once I had a problem with my telephone line / ADSL line I called TT&T (as both companies were called at that time) and the fixed the line that goes down Soi 88.
After the TT&T and Triple-T separation something may have happened with the line infrastructure/ownership so that they maybe are taken over by TOT?

Re: Telephone fixed line
Yes, it is all very confusing......I went to a TT&T office as I don't believe there is such a thing anymore as TTT, now called Maxnet or 3BBB.
It seemed that after I get the telephone line from TOT, I will then be able to go to Maxnet to get ADSL internet on that line.....at least that is what I understood :-)
TOT said they would visit the site this week and give a price.

Re: Telephone fixed line
Get a ADSL price from TOT while there at it. Then you can compare. From what I have read the service is about the same.
My experience with getting a Cable run to our complex about 2km distance from main line was that when we paid (160,000 thb) for the cable, box and all (and were told that the line would be ours exclusively) that their 20 day installation promise turned into 4 months of excuses, promises, missed appointments and wait. After all was finally installed I saw another company string a line (from the box we were told was ours) on down the street to service other customers.

Re: Telephone fixed line
I signed up with 3BB a couple of months back and they ran a new line to the house in addition to the TT&T phone line.
Watch the contract though - they force you into a year by quoting ridiculous setup charges if you don't sign. They will also charge you a nice chunk if you find the service crap after a couple of months (very likely) and want to cancel it.

Re: Telephone fixed line
Thanks Buksida, so maybe I should go see 3BBB and see what they say.......
Re: Telephone fixed line
OK, here is what happened. TOT has come back with a price of 7000 baht to run the line to the house. However that price is if we use them for internet service. If I want to use Maxnet, it is 1600 baht more......
I choose the 8600 baht option......I don't want to be locked into TOT.

Re: Telephone fixed line
I think you have made a good decision because Bht7,000 is quite low and so I suspect the line is not over a great distance.

Re: Telephone fixed line
Yes, on closer inspection I'm pretty sure the line is about 100 meters from the house. That is if they simply tag onto an existing line. If they need to go back to the main road that is closer 1 kilometer and I doubt they would do that for 8600 baht.
Re: Telephone fixed line
Just my 2 bahts worth, but I got so dicked off with TT&T that I've ditched their one sided contract and customer service that is devoid of service and just gone for decent wifi modem with a Thai GSM card in it, about 2500 baht from a Telewiz shop.
If you want to download loads of movies etc or use Rapid Share a lot, then fine, do a land line. If not then I'd just blow them off, lots of trouble, and as said by buksida the devil is in the detail regarding contracts. They also don't give you back your 1500 baht deposit for the crappy Chinese modem they give out, even if you do a whole year. I find it much better to just use the wifi modem, free from their crap, pretty cheap too, 50 hours is about 100 or so baht and valid for a month, just fill up the card in the modem by putting it into your phone and topping it up.
I like the mobility too, especially if you have a lap top, also has all the software in it, so it'll work with any computer you stick it in to.
Not everone likes them but it's 'Horses for courses'. I like the fact that I'm no longer in those incompetent fools pocket.

Re: Telephone fixed line
To update, TOT arrived today (Sunday) and installed the line. They did in fact string a new dedicated line right from the main road (1km) so I think 8600 baht is very reasonable.
Re: Telephone fixed line
Congrats!!
I hope it will serve you well in the future!!
