The good with the bad

Post by norm »

About nine months ago we purchased a condo in Cha Am. At the time the road to the condo was really bad and flooded all the time. The view from the condo down the beach to the North and to the South were outstanding.

About 50 meters away a new condo went up. Didn't think to much about it until it keep going and going until it reach 15 floors and greatly reduced our view to the north.

Apparently someone in Cha Am government is the owner of the new condo so he was able to ignore the 4 story rule that most have to follow.

But the good part is he used his influence to fix the drainage problem and put in a very nice road. The road is a pleasure to drive down. The view we truly miss.

So I'm not sure if we came out ahead or behind in the deal. During the rainy season I lean towards ahead.

But the condo is one of the best decisions we have made. I immagine the road adds to the value and the view while not as good as before is still a very nice view.

A good case of swings and roundabouts Norm, the little bit of the view that you have lost (I think) would have more than been made up by the fact that you now have a good road and drainage, which I think once the rainy season has started, you will then feel the benefit of.

Just reposition you chairs on you balcony at an angle that you do not have to view the other condo and just have views over the beach.

Another point is, if you get any further land related problems, try and make contact with the owner of the new building or his representatives, tell them your concerns and how badly it could reflect on his magnificent condo building.
Will bet you that they are fixed without and delay.

Any way good luck Norm, and personally I think you have made the correct property choice with the condo. If I was in a position to buy anywhere in Thailand, I would only go the route that you have taken.

without a well drained and maintained road y may not be able to get back to your condo one day to enjoy that (impaired) view....

theres my perspective.

Thanks for that Chelsea appreciate the comments.

Sandman I believe you are right about the road, it was nothing but potholes that filled up with water. If they had gotten much worse you could have lost a motorcycle in them. (well almost).

Enjoy it every day.

Norm them potholes sound like ones I found on a drive round Koh Lanta a few years ago.
Apart from about 5ks of road directly out of Ban Saladin all the rest of the roads had no tarmac, just dirt.
I hired a little Suzuki Seirra 4WD one day and went for a drive to the old town.
I was being extra careful because it had been raining hard, but nearly lost one wheel in a pot hole that I did not see.
Every day you would regularly see tourists come to grief on motor bikes etc. The pick up truck that the hotel collected us in, I do not know how it stayed together on its daily trips back and forward to the town.

Sounds like a winner; you still have a great view south and a nice, new (and free) road to drive in and out. :thumb:
