There is a little info here: www.expathuahin.com/family-huahin.php

It may vary for your embassy though, I would have a read of some of the posts in the legal and visa section for procedures and requirements.

I have deleted your other post as it was a duplicate of this one.

I've no idea about Aussie rules - your football is bad enough :D

I think the best advice anybody can give you is to say contact your embassy. They will give you facts that can be played back to them at a later date.

If they are anything like the British Embassy, they will be very helpful, and respond to e-mails within 24 hours.

have a read what your embassy says, you'd need to register it with them, if you want it to be legal in oz
think it has to be registered with your embassy for it to be used for a marriage visa if she's going down there

under thai law pre-nuptial agreements are allowed

The first step is getting a letter from your embassy stating that you are a single man. Only your embassy can certify that to the Thai authorities. Usually on this letter, they also state occupation, income etc.

This letter has to be translated and certified at the Thai ministry of Foreing Affairs which is in Chaeng Wattana road in the north of Bangkok. Once this is done you are free to marry. Good luck!

Tookta

just curious...

From the sound of your post you don't sound like you know a lot about Thailand, but want to get married and work here.

This smells like a holiday romance (just after the first time in Thailand?) and you're smitten. I'd advise taking two steps backward, take a de-eee-ep breath, click on www.stickmanbangkok.com scroll down to the reader's contributions and spend a day or two reading there.

If you think she's different, find a place where you live in Oz where you can learn the Thai language (spoken, written is even better) and then come visit again.

Note that non-Thais are barred from many occupations and work permits are extremely difficult to get these days.

Spot on Ellinas,
The Affirmation of Freedom to Marry is the first step. Obtained from the OP's Embassy. It must be translated into Thai by a recognised translation service. There's loads of them around Sukhimvit area, just make sure you get the official stamp. Then off to the MFA - it's up near Don Muang airport. Pay 300 Baht odd for a turnaround within two days or 800 Baht for a 2 hour service. The MFA authenticates all the documaents you supply. This is essential.
After that, go to any Amphur Office in Thailand and get the pretty marriage certificate. Two witnesses are required, but if you don't have them the Amphur staff will do it. 100 Baht to each for lunch would be appreciated, but not strictly necessary.
You're hitched and you're both married in the eyes of the law in almost every western country in the world.
It's as easy as that. Good luck.

If you prefer once you have been to the embassey and have your stat dec saying that your single and can marry and dont want to stay in Bangkok the tranlation centre and law office company 2nd floor of Huahin shopping centre can do the translation and send to Bangkok for the MFA stamps then all you need to do is go to the Amphor.
But have a think about what Vincent D is saying. :)

As with property, the best advice is "rent for a year" to see if you really like it. :thumb:

What a load of crap some people spout. Especially the expats that have been living here for some time and think they 'know it all'. A straightforward question deserves a straightforward answer.
Yes a registered/legal marriage in Thailand is recognised by all of the modern world. Some people book a holiday in Thailand (and other exotic resorts) to exchange their marriage vows. IT'S LEGAL!!.
The OP asked a simple question. It beggars one of two answers - YES or NO. As we all know, the answer is YES.
Stop moralising and answer the question.

I've lived here for over 7 years. I hope I haven't mounted that 'high horse' yet.
