when i next come to thailand i want to travel to hua hin by train are taxis available to get into the town

Taxis/Tuk tuks are always available there, but the station is in town (5 minutes walk to anywhere in town).

It will be more likely that you want a taxi to take you slightly out of town.

Yes, no problem. You'll find motorcycle taxis and tuk tuks right outside the station. It's not far into the centre of town.

Just in case you didn't know, the trains are extremely slow and unreliable. It can take seven hours or more depending on how lucky you are. If you have time and like sitting on unmoving trains for hours good luck. I personally prefer the road!

Oh heck, here we go again with the train v road thing!
Reg - if you are prepared for any delays go by train and avoid the flippin' angst and carnage of Petkasem highway. Get yourself a seat in the buffet car and chill out.
But if you are travelling close to Songran just be aware that trains get booked up.
