24 hr cheap guesthouse/hotel

Post by tones »

G'day
I'm traveling from sydney and arrive in Bangkok at 11.15pm and don't want to hang around in the city. I'm looking for a place to crash for the night in Hua Hin on the night\early morning i arrive. I know its a 3 hr drive from Bangers and thats sweet.
Cheers

Best thing to do would probably book into one of the larger hotels for a couple of days, but tell them that you do not arrive until early morning, and then look around for somwhere more suitable duringn that time. I know you will not get much use out of the hotel for the 1st day, but at least there will be a bed waiting there for you.
Places like the Sofitel or Hilton should be able to arrange that for you.
Here is a link to accomodation in town.

Enjoy your stay

whats the cheapest going rate for a room in one of these big hotels?
i'd much rather just pay for 1 night in a cheap place then get a nice guest house the next day!

Bearing in mind the time you're arriving in BKK, I'd be inclined to head for a half decent hotel around Sukhumvit area for the first night. You should be able to get a room for around 1,000 Baht. The next day, get down to HH.
If you're arriving at Swampi airport at 11.15pm, you're not going to clear Imm and customs until 1am ish? Taxi into BKK and you're looking for somewhere at 2am ish. Couple of hours kip and then down to HH by taxi (or whatever mode of transport) and you can arrive mid afternoon.
Alternatively, just go for it straight away, but you'll probably be here around 4-5am. I'm not sure what time the guesthouses open. Maybe you'd have to hang around having a coffee for a couple of hours.
I appreciate that either of the above options are not what you'd ideally want to do, but they're ideas.
As chelsea says, take a look at the link he posted.
I assume you're coming over here alone, rather than with g/f, wife, family? you don't say.

Is swampi the new airport? I found the old airport pretty good for getting past customs. i've no interest in going into Bangkok for any amount of shut eye, we did it the last 2 times and it was painful. :cuss:

Yeah - the new airport's Suvanhamburi (sic). I would reckon that arriving at 11.15pm, traffic won't be too bad and hopefully Imm won't be too busy either. When I used it last year, my wife and I were outside within about one hours of landing - which wasn't too bad. Our flight arrived at approx the same time as your's.
There are plenty of threads on getting down here by taxi from the airport. Take a look, because the info is far more up to date than I can vouch for last year.
Still, expect to arrive in HH at about 4-5am. Hotels like the Sofitel and Hilton start from 4,000 Baht (you might be able to negotiate better). Seems a bit expensive to me if you're only going to stay there until kicking out time at midday.
I'm sure that some of the guesthouses on chelsea's link will say open if they know you're arriving beforehand.

The Fresh Inn has a 24 hour reception and decent rooms. Assuming your arriving soon you'll have no problem getting a room - you'll prob have to book ahead if you're coming in high season. Rates start at around 1200 baht.

Location is spot on as well, just tell the driver to head for the Hilton - the Fresh Inn is directly across the street from the Hilton entrance. Wake up next day and you're within walking distance of plenty guesthouses etc.

Can't find an email address but their number's +66-(0)-32-511389 if you want to book ahead.

Always dearer over xmas and new year. TRy look on the HHAD accomodation I think Jings did some good prices over that time.
I also stayed in the Little Danish/Denmark last year and that was ok

We have stayed at the White Villa recently and found it to be very nice and clean, reasonably priced too.It is also directly opposite the market Village so very handy for Tesco Lotus etc
