Going to head down south for a bit, and am looking for something half decent with a pool that doesn't break the bank.
Any recommendations?
I've noticed that there is quite a price difference between Phuket and Krabi for the same type of hotel, Krabi being more expensive.

we haven't been since we discovered HH, but we stayed in the Patong Merlin several times (and knew several people who went every year, which is I think testimony to its quality). I hope the rates published on its website are a bit of a pisstake, but if you can get a reasonable price from them, it's a great place to stay. It has 3 good pools in really nice grounds, is across the road from the beach and is about 5 mins walk from Soi Bangla, meaning nightlife is close but far enough away not to be in your face. It may have changed since we last there, but we have genuinely good memories of it - it used to be the best vfm on Phuket.

Buks, I stayed there 3 years ago in Ao Nang not in Krabi town and stayed at the Queens Pavilion which was very nice.
Has a 3 tier swiming pool and most rooms, oher than 1st one or two floors have sea views and huge balconies
http://www.krabi-photos.com/pavilion/fr ... =index.htm
But was looking at going back again and found this place to be more reasonable and very close to the pavilion
http://www.sawadee.com/hotel/krabi/duangjai/review.html
The price is very reasonable and all the website reviews seem to be positive.
If u look on http://www.sawadee.com there is a whole list of places available.
Ao Nang I found to be a good place to use as a base for exploring the islands nearby on long boats, and if u want diving there are plenty of shops there to assist.
Also has a small bar area in the centre of town plus heaps of other places to eat and drink away from there.

Thanks for those - will have a look.
Have been to both Krabi/Ao Nang and Phuket before so know what to expect, just noticed the range and prices on the agents sites are far better and cheaper for this time of year in Phuket so will prolly go there. Also have family in tow so plenty to see and do - (while I'm diving
)
The R24 (Sawadee) lot seems to have pretty good rates, almost half of that on the resorts own websites.

Bucks, on the sawadee site (with the hotels that have their own sites) the Sawadee site normally has a lot better prices that booking direct, so just check out both.
Also there is a site called Asia Rooms they are good as well.
I have used the Sawadee booking site and all work OK, no problems with anything that I booked.
