Baked Beans

Post by PeteC »

Does every establishment in Thailand that serves an English breakfast use Heinz beans? It seems that way to me.

I see Branston is available here, and assume others which may be better than Heinz.

Note: To me Heinz beans are too sweet. Must be a load of sugar that they put in?

They’ll be by far the most expensive so I doubt many use Heinz, but then again most brands are relatively expensive.

Branston, and the aussie and new zealand brands are fine. I think some use Thai brands. You can usually tell Heinz as it is all sauce and fewer beans. Never liked it or used it in the UK and never used it here either

When I worked in Abu Dhabi Heinz beans had a completely different taste and to my taste buds were much nicer than those in the UK (I don’t buy them here so wouldn’t know what they taste like)?

Heinz are almost double the price of a brand sold alongside them in a small supermarket near me. Not sure if they're got the pricing wrong, as it's not one of those terrible Thai cannonball brands, I think maybe Aussie.

I won’t pay the price but I’m sure I have seen Heinz at about B100 a tin

I now buy Thai baked beans Ayam brand but you have to buy the tins marked English recipe. Ayam also has two other types of baked beans but they are not so good. You can buy the English Recipe beans at Lotus, BluPort, Nany's or many other places and they cost about 65 Baht per tin. American Baked Beans have lots of added brown sugar. Heinz makes both English and American baked beans and uses cans with the same labels so you have to be sure that the Heinz beans you buy actually come from England.

I was converted to Campbells Pork & Beans during my time in HH. Since coming back to Blighty I've discovered Bransons.

Exactly - when I was in the Uk last year you could pick up a tin of beans from Aldi at just over 40p and they taste as good if not better than Heinz at a third of the price or a sixth of what they’d be here!!

Not too sure I've ever tried either, but with such a staunch recommendation, I'll have to give them a try - hell, can't be any worse than those served in the Royal Gwent :D

I've gone native, and actually prefer the Thai brand these days - they aren't exactly cheap either.

My favourite (English Breakfast) cafe at the moment, T&Ms actually make their own, which are quite acceptable.
