Manchester!!! Tell me where to go & what to see!

Post by Wesu »

Going to England for the first time soon, tell me places to check out and every other advice given is appreciated. I go to Manchester, but will try to visit London, too. 8 days I will be staying in the country.

Hailing from Finland, never been in middle-Europe or England before.

Soul Monsta'll put you right, but I remember the first time I stayed up there at an exhibition with my team. I asked one of the local girls helping out on the stand where to go for food that night. She suggested Chinatown and if it's still as good as it was years ago, I'd recommend it highly. Knocked the spots off Soho in London.

Just a few recomendations

Manchester museum of science and technolagy.

There are masses of good night clubs for all tastes and styles of music

The Gay village the best music, best atmosphere, best place for all the tidy chicks
dont let the Gay part put you off you wont get chatted up by any blokes its the safest place in town to enjoy manchester nightlife
also Castlefield basin rub shoulders with Manchesters celebraties (expensive but ok )

Since the bombing Manchester has turned into one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the Uk and has a host things to see and do last time i was home i didnt know the palce

Eccles cakes anyone?

The best thing about Manchester is the road heading out - ouch, sorry - really good if its in the direction of the snake pass and the peak district. The snake pass being a great road (takes you to Sheffield by the by).

England is not in Central Europe so make sure that if you want to visit Manchester that you travel to the England that is in Western Europe.

I have spent many years in England and in my opinion Manchester is the third best of the large cities after London and Newcastle.

There is plenty to see and do and trhe surrounding area as Dave says is excellent. Try the Penines to the East and the Lake District further North. Lancaster is also a nice old city worth a visit and there are a few half decent seaside resorts.

On the downside it's pissing down with rain most of the time and the beer is not as good as you can get in the South and in Wales but it is significantly cheaper. They all seem to like it with a load of creamy froth on the top and it often comes from a keg rather than a barrel.

The local Doris ain't bad either and you can pull easily although sometime you have to fork out on a couple of Vodkas first.. It is a bit difficult to undertstand what they say but who cares anyway.

BTW you can get gravy or curry sauce with your chips.

Guess, if you would like to drink the beer served in the south of England when visiting the north just ask the barman to mix an equal amount of lemonade and beer. :D Jobs a Good un.
