Hi folks,
Been lurking here for a while now. A friend and myself are coming to Hua Hin for a few days on 29th June.
We intend to taxis down from BKK. Have you any recommendations on who to use?
Is it possible to get a speedboat/ferry across from Hua Hin to around Rayong (we are looking to go to Ko Samet). Is this madness (given the distance) or possible? If so what sort of money would it be for two people.
Great site and thanks for any help.
Cheers,
J

If you are going to be in BKK for a few weeks my recomendation is to wait until you find a taxi that has a relatively new vehicle, is in his late thirties opr early forties and you have riden with him and apotted that he is relatively safe. Make a deal with him that should be abolutely no more than 2000 Baht. Get his mobile number and book him. to pick you up at your hotel. I have doine this about twenty times and apart from one guy who kept dozing off it has always worked out well. If you get one that works a day shifts you can probably avoid the dozing off risk.
Speed boats across the Gulf. Yes you would have to be a nutter to try that one. There has been much discussion about this many rumours of services about to start but nothing positive yet. One alternative you could consider is to bus and boat down to Koh Samui and fly to U-Tapao. About 3500 per person the last time I did it. Time consuming but enjoyable.
I think Bangkok air supply the air service and all tickets can be bought from travel agents in Hua Hin.

Thanks you both for the info. I think we'll use the mini van etc on the way out. For ease, after a direct flight from London, I think we'll stick with a private hire. The driver falling a sleep idea is a bit worring though!
Can anyone vouch for particular company? I am thinking of using huahin limousine (THB 3000 Volvo S90 'Exec' with DVD - paying a bit extra for a better car). I have a list of links to companies but think it's against the rules to post them.
Thanks Again,
J
