I guess this is the right place to put this rather sad tale. Talking to a close fiend of mine today who tells me that he and his farang wife were on their motorcycle going home wee small hours of today. Passing Market Village they found two motorcycles with two thai guys on each one, come along either side of them. The passengers of the thai motorcycles started making advances at the female farang passenger and then proceeded to try to touch her as they were travelling along the highway. Fortunately the farang is an experienced two wheeler and managed with great difficulty to evade them, however his wife is extremely upset by the episode. I hope that this is an isolated incident but be careful out their.

This isnt the first instance of these sort of happenings in HH
there has been a number of these over the past few years involving bar owners, tourists Thai's and expats alike no exclusions.
some of the youths were rounded up by the local constabulary maybe they have been released from His Majesty's pleasure and started to persue their old habits
keep an eye over your shoulder, but remeber this sort of thing is universal not just in HH

"I don't often agree with the RSPCA as i believe it is an animals duty to be on my plate at supper time"
It happens over here often as well but more in the high season when the pickings are better than now. Per reports it is always after midnight and usually in the 0100-0200 hours time frame. The motivation is theft and I am sure they were looking if a purse was there and/or a gold chain or two. I would love to read once that the victim raised his leg off the foot rest and kicked the bike and the guy over onto his head! Pete

Similar incident happened to me last year. I was taking my young friend back to town from Khao Takiab around 1 a.m. As we approached the flyover where you have to turn left, two bikes with passengers started to follow us. One of the passengers had a stick he could have put into the wheels. My friend, who's not a local guy, beat me on the back and said, "Go fast! Go!" I was never so happy to have 3 more horsepower, and knew how to use it.
They surely would have driven us off the road and stolen our stuff. They probably assumed that people that late at night are drunker than they are. I never drive with an ounce of beer in my system.

This can happen anywhere in the world. It is unfortunate it has happened in LOS as most people when they go there have a great deal of trust in the local pop. I myself feel safer in LOS than i do in the OHH ZEEE.
When i visit if i have to travel a distance at night i will try and use a cabby that i have built a bit of a relationship with. Or if i walk it will be by places still open along the street.

Unfortunately the problems of a growing economy are surfacing here particularly with teenage males.
The main reason that alcohol licensing restrictions were strengthened a few years ago was that teeange gangs were causing grief at night. Thes were mostly not in tourist areas but places such as Khon Kaen and Korat where the new found income was being used by the youg to buy ya ba, alchohol and motorbikes..
In Hua Hin I have noticed a general rise in yobist practices but not really out of proportion with the natural growth of the town.
However as has been stated already these thing are rare, are usually at night and usually where there are no witnesses. So be alert and don't wander off on foot form busy areas an on bike use the mirrors as much as possible. Do a U-Turn rather than take a chance.

When I started this thread it was to warn people to be aware of 1 situation that I had been made aware of. Unfortunatly it appears to have expanded slightly. For anyone not resident in Hua Hin this was a very isolated incident. In the two years that I have been resident in Hua Hin I have never been confronted with a situation in which I felt threatened. I regularly leave the town centre in the early hours of the morning quite often by motorcycle taxi. I actually consider myself a lot safer here than I ever did in London or any other UK city. For anyone planning to visit I am sure that you will receive a warm welcome from both the Thais and the local farangs. Just take the same care here that you would in you own home town. Party and be happy.
