Hua Hin Hospital Vs Bangkok Hospital

This very possibly may already have been covered, in which case I apologise in advance, however I couldn't find a relevant thread.

There are probably as many opinions on this as there are expats on this forum, however I am just trying to get a feel for which of these 2 hospitals offers the best service in terms of medical treatment. I know that BKK Hospital has a reputation for being pricey, however my very limited experience with them has been pretty good, medically speaking. I have never used HH Hospital and frankly am somewhat put off by the unknown and the fact that both my wife and I are farangs, with no Thai language skills, so are concerned about being able to communicate and to navigate the inevitable bureaucracy.

Appreciate your thoughts on the matter

PS. I know I have left out Sao Paolo hospital, but I have read nothing but bad comments about the place on here and my MIL had a very bad experience with them on a visit to HH, so as far as I'm concerned they don't factor into the equation.

BKK Hospital does, as you say, give a superb service but at a cost. 5 star prices.

You don't have to worry about not speaking Thai at the HH Hospital. There is a foreigner service where the staff speak excellent English and for a couple of hundred fee they will escort you through the various departments required. Called the Express Service or VIP you will go straight to the head of any queue. Not taking this service can result in spending a whole day there.

Decent enough for a cheap as chips place. I've been patched up there a few times, plus had a stay there for dengue fever. Never had a problem.

If you can afford to go to BKK hospital, of course go there, as it's a proper hospital. If you can't afford it go to either Hua Hin Hospital or Petcharat Hospital on your third class ticket - never set foot in Sao Paolo.

Don't know about BKK Hospital, but from experience (my sister's, not mine) San Paolo's priority ( a few years ago, before the new HH hospital or BKK hospital) was how payment will be made, although on both occasions that my sister had to go there they were pretty quick to get the drip into her arm while still at reception. On one of her visits they kept her in for a couple of days and she had a very nice room all to herself. Shame about the mosquitoes: she was covered in bites when she came out. My fault for buying her a big bouquet of flowers which gave them somewhere to hide I suppose.

At Hua Hin hospital I've never been asked how I will pay (I think it's cash only anyway) or if I can afford it. At weekends and holidays it's not unusual that the express service is unavailable or that less experienced junior doctors are on duty. So best to go there on normal weekdays. The car parking leaves a lot to be desired as well. Prescribed medicines are very cheap and often cheaper than at pharmacies, though some medicines will be generics or government pharmaceutical organisation products (and nothing wrong with that). Apart from weekends, the doctors I and my wife have seen are pretty good. A lot of them speak English enough to discuss your case and treatments.

Also agree that Phetcharat is very good. Shame it's not closer.

My wife and I have a very high opinion of BKK Hospital. The service has always been superb, quick and efficient.
The cost is a fraction of what similar treatment would be in Australia. However, the best part is that you can go for treatment and be referred to a specialist and seen within the hour.
We feel very relaxed about being in HH knowing that high quality medical care is only 5 minutes away from our condo.

I also choose BKK Hospital every day of the week. Both me and my wife have experience of them and we have always found them very professional. It's of course hard as a layman to really rate the level of care and treatment, but as fare as we can tell it's very good.

I once had a problem that needed X-ray. In Sweden I probably have had to wait several weeks for the X-ray. At BKK Hospital, I had to wait less than an hour.

Regarding prices, maybe they are pricey, I really don't know. I do know that they are really cheap compared to Sweden.

I once had some problems with my ears. I visited them two times, met three different doctors in four different meetings. Bought a small pharmacy of different drugs. For alt that I paid less than 10 000 Baht. Probably expensive for Thailand, but quite OK for me, especially since my insurance company took more than half the bill. Since it's my health that is at stake, I wouldn't consider going anywhere else. And no, I don't own shares in the company.

You can pay by credit card over 300 or 500 I can't quite remember.

Thank you to all who have taken the time to comment and especially to BB for his extremely detailed PM. I now have a much better understanding and appreciation of the situation regarding these 2 hospitals and also Petcharat Hospital, which I hadn't really considered before.
