Whereabouts of shop to buy fit for purpose crash helmet

Post by Bilbo52 »

I want to buy a crash helmet that is fit for purpose. I currently ride my Honda Click whilst wearing a plastic potty type helmet. Eventually it has dawned on me that this helmet will not offer any protection and will probably fly off my head before my head hits the ground. The only assistance it offers is not to attract the attention of Plod to pull me over and fine me for not wearing a helmet. So my question is: where is a good place to get a fit for purpose helmet. I want something that covers my ears, but not a full face helmet. Any suggestions (and cost) would be welcome. Just to pre-empt any "useful" advice, I do not plan to park my bike in the garage, ie not ride it.

In anticipation, many thanks.

Go past Hua Hin railway station heading north, after approx 150 m before the roundabout there is a motor cycle helmet shop on the left.

Are they fit for purpose? That's where my son got his, and he thinks not.

I got a fairly descent one from the Honda dealer - Honda brand but it seems fairly good quality (from a safety point of view).

It's something I've struggled to find as well, a decent helmet suitable for riding a scooter. You have two extremes, local places selling cheap plasticky ones and specialist biker shops selling those full face things that are way over the top for going to 7/11. The best one I've found so far was from Honda as well but it's getting a bit old now and when I've been back, they've never had one big enough to fit me.

Why don't you buy one in EU and take it in your luggage

I bought mine in Dk, and its what you will call a decent helmet, and is about 2500 baht but meet the recomandation and law in DK.

That sounds easy but when I'm here I work six days a week in a country where everything closes on a Sunday and I don't have a reliable address to use to buy online.

I second ClubMoto, they have a great choice of safe helmets in different price categories. Shipping works, however I would recommend to try on the helmet before purchase to get the right fit. If it's to small you have a nasty headache coming your way and if it is to big, the safety goes out the window. Don't safe money on the most important protection while riding a bike.... :tsk:

Cheers,
B.

Thanks folks, I will have a look around the aforementioned outlets. It will give me a good excuse to get out of the house. Thanks again.

I'll give it a try, do they have anything suitable for a scooter? I don't want one of those full face helmets with a design on it aimed at a 17 year old heavy metal fan!

Hi STEVE G,

Yes, they have full face and jet helmets. If I remember correctly the jet helmets are plain colored without an eccentric design. One brand is Scoot (about THB 1300) and the other Bimola (about THB 2300).

Cheers,
B.
