Scratched Windscreen
Scratched Windscreen
Some kind ****** yesterday left me with a 3' long scratch (gouge) on my windscreen (we have a good idea who it was, but that's a long story). Here's a photo, but not sure if you will see the scratch.
What I need to know is can they repair scratches here, or will it require a new windscreen (if I bother to change it)? If it can be repaired, any recommendations where please?

So, back to topic, does anybody know if I can get a scratched windscreen repaired? If yes, any recommendations please?

Firstly, you can repair windscreen glass scratches.Big Boy wrote:So, back to topic, does anybody know if I can get a scratched windscreen repaired? If yes, any recommendations please?
The final result will depend on how deep the scratch is.
I know someone that used a product called 'Scratch Doctor' that he bought online.( in the UK)
It was for 2 wiper blade scratches that were fairly long though not to deep.
It did the trick and was quite easy to use, apparently!.
I didn't see the product in action but the final result was excellent.
There are similar products probably available in any motor accessory shop or department.
Where you would find one in HH ? I have no idea, but i'm sure someone does, but you can always buy it online.
That would be my first option before a costly replacement.

Thanks for that - re-assuring. However, I'd rather take it somewhere to have it repaired properly if possible - I'm very ham-fisted at anything DIY, so would prefer an expert if such a person exists in Hua Hin.

Can you not have the windscreen replaced under your insurance policy?
Should not affect the renewal cost.

Re: Scratched Windscreen
Probably, but while it's a niggle, it isn't really enough to replace the whole screen - especially as it could happen again.

Re: Scratched Windscreen
sorry to ask this, but is your photo in this thread of a yard full of plants with a wire fence in front of it, with some blue sky?

Re: Scratched Windscreen
The photo is taken looking through the car windscreen. The scratch is easier to see against the background of a yard full of plants with a wire fence in front of it.
However, if you're viewing through a phone, or inferior screen, it probably looks like a yard full of plants with a wire fence in front of it, with some blue sky

Re: Scratched Windscreen
Repairing windshields is big business here in the U.S. with several companies that will come to your home or office and do it. I have a rock chip in mine and I've been looking at reviews. So far what I've found is that, even though there are do it yourself products out there, it's better to have a professional do it if possible. Also the general opinion on repair or replace seems to be repair even if replace is covered by insurance. It seems that the factory seal is nearly always better than the seal on replaced glass which may leak over time.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?
Re: Scratched Windscreen
I've got the problem sorted.
I contacted my Insurance Broker, Matt at Insure in Thailand AKA AA Insurance. Matt has always been very helpful in such matters, and even though nothing to do with a new policy or claim, he went out of his way to find the information I needed.
After asking about, he pointed me in the general direction of B-Quick. I enquired at B-Quick, and they directed me to a small place just 2 doors North.
Mrs BB asked if they could fix it. The guy took a look, went into the workshop, came back with the stuff to do the job, and it was just like new in less than 10 minutes - he hadn't even even given us a price. Mrs BB asked how much, and he replied 200 Baht - absolute bargain.
For anybody with similar problems, I attach a photo of the workshop and his card:

I think the workshop could be a handy place to know for vehicle owners and I would bet he does bodywork scratch and ding repairs too.
