Motorcycle Transfer Of Ownership Question

Post by jumusman »

Hi Everyone,

So I purchased a PCX 125 a few weeks ago from a guy in Pattaya that I used to rent from all the time when I lived there. He gave me the green book and all the pertinent paperwork he says, he sells and buys bikes all the time so I trust him.

The bike is actually registered in BKK so when I went to Pranburi today to transfer the ownership the lady told me I either need to go to Bang Na (not going to happen) or to Prachuap Khiri Khan motor division (long way to drive on a PCX) to get the bike transferred over to a Hua Hin license plate, she could not do it there. I spoke with the owner and he said there are agents that can handle this paperwork for me so I went looking.

I found a place today just north of the corner of Prapokklao Road, the one that runs with the train track and Khao Hin Lek Fai Rd, it has a orange or yellow sign outside advertising driving lessons. Anyway I asked the lady in there and she pointed me right next door to what looked like a bike rental place and a lady told me should could do it all for 2500 baht.

She said that she will take all my paperwork and not do it in Prachuap Khiri Khan but in Cha Am if I didn't mind a Cha Am license plate, which I don't. She told me I also needed to go to immigration and get paperwork that states I want to buy a motorbike. I have never heard this before, she promised me that if I went in to immigration and told them I was going to buy a motorbike they would know what paperwork I was talking about, anyone have any ideas what this piece of paper is ?

The only thing I thought I needed was something showing my address in Hua Hin which I can get from immigration or the police station but I don't think I need cause my Thai license has it on the back already. She told me this was not the paperwork she was talking about.

She also said this would take about a week, but she didn't need the bike. Anyone heard of this before or have any suggestions for me ? I would like to know if anyone has a suggestion for an agent that they trust, I didn't feel 100% comfortable giving this lady the green book and waiting a week so I thought I would ask for some opinions before doing so. Does the amount sound right ? How can they do this without the bike ? I thought when you transfer ownership the bike needs to be physically checked. Any help would be appreciated. Maybe I can just drive to Cha Am myself and get it done.

Hi

Easy to transfer!

Obviously you need the bike and Ownership Book to Pranburi. Go early mid week as busy!

GF needs her Thai ID card.

You need passport and visa stuff all copied Once and signed by you. To be safe I would also get a letter of residence from Immigration 500B verifying address and permission to buy a motorcycle, even if you have the House registration Book
as the Department of Land Transport (DLT) do change their rules, take both if you have?

The transfer of ownership form can be obtained at the DLT and takes 5 minutes all in Thai.

The whole process maybe 2 - 3 hours. Tesco is opposite the DLT for a coffee!

If GF refuses to come with you. Download the Power of Attorney & Transfer form from net. Complete paperwork
but she needs to sign some of it and you take the bike yourself. You will be able to transfer by yourself. Message me for the link if required!

Ok, another quick thought, what are the dangers of leaving it in her name and using it anyway? I have the paperwork, all i ned to do is get the road tax annually (I think)

If it's a Honda then go to the Honda shop and they will do everything for you. Just the same with Yamaha etc etc.
No need to go traipsing all over the province.

Wow, I REALLY wish I would have known this a week ago. I paid an agent 2500 baht to do this same thing. Oh well, now I know for next time if I ever sell the bike or buy another one.

Took the receipt in with my passport and log book, changed it in 10 mins. To be honest I don't think they had even registered the bike with owner yet, all she seemed to do was score out her name in their Log Book and replace it with mine? Anyway done and dusted :D
