Motorcycle Maintenance - Buyer Beware

Post by MrPlum »

Just had my Honda Click motorbike returned after being serviced by Honda. The oil filter was badly clogged, a belt was worn, two bearings needed replacing and a new engine may need also need replacing.

I have been marvelling at how cheap it is to use these roadside maintenance shops. For tires, air and oil changes, they are great. Unfortunately, their level of knowledge seems limited. I'll explain...

After replacing one engine, my oil warning light kept coming on after 5-10 km and I could feel the heat coming from the engine. When I checked the oil, the level would not register. 3 roadside shops just changed the oil. One said the sensor was dodgy.

It appears that the main problem was simply the oil filter. You would have thought it would be one of the first things to check, yet none did.

I will still use these shops for simple services but for anything more, the main Honda service garage is the place to go.

Yes, we have a couple of Hondas and always get them serviced at the Honda dealership near Bangkok Bank. I forget how much it costs but it isn't a lot.

I've just had my PCX serviced at Honda Cha Am, oil change and replacement air filter, total cost 550 baht, so not worth looking for a cheaper option.
