Hotels near the Rajamangala stadium in Bangkok

Post by caller »

Off to watch Chelsea play there on 17th July and I've been advised its a difficult place to get to, at least in that everything gets grid-locked, so was wondering if anyone is able to recommend a hotel within walking distance?

Then again, if anyone knows the hotel Chelsea are staying at, that would be another option - I might be able to get a lift!

Thanks for any feedback.

Must admit, I thought it must be the National Stadium and hence served by the Skytrain, stopping at the....... "National Stadium Station"!!

But on closer inspection, not the case - seems strange as apparently it's home to the Thai National Wendyball Team

Apologies Caller, the only hotels I know and have stayed in are a couple of Km's away..... so not great in Bangkok traffic.

The other problem with the skytrain is how small each train is, not much help for a crowd in excess of 50,000.

Google gives the following within one km from the stadium: Bangkok Inter Place, The Dynasty Bangkok Hotel and Regent Ramkhamhaeng 22. No idea, what they are like but they are within an easy walking distance and the area is worth walking around. The university makes it a very lively area.

Hasn't Dr Mike/midlandmike given a recommendation for that one on another thread recently, although I wasn't sure what the 'die nasty' referred to in his post?

No, the were referring to the Dynasty Inn, two of them in Sukhumvit Soi 4.

Stayed at the The Dynasty Bangkok Hotel many times soi 6 if I remember correctly. Directly on the klong to get boats into town. About 1000 baht a night. Breakfast 50/50, rooms clean. TV's old models with limited channels. About 10 mins + walk to the stadium. Very busy area as millions of students go to the university next to the stadium.

Kantary House at the top of Ramkhamhaeng soi 42. I lived there for a year and continue to stay there 6 or more times a year. THB1800 a night with breakfast. Excellent food. Free wifi in lounge. Easy to get to the stadium from both ends of the soi. http://www.kantarycollection.com/kantar ... index.html

I went there 3 times a few months ago, the best way to get there is using the citylink /airport line,

get the BTS to phaya Thai, get airport link to Hua Mak, get taxi to stadium, theres a really big hotel just over the round from the back entrance to the staduim, http://www.bangkokinterplace.com/

You dont need to stay overnight there, just leave 5 minutes before the end, walk quickly towards the front exit from the stadium and there will be taxis on the main street.

My advice is get there early, drink in the hotel then go to the game, leave 5 mins early.

Thanks for all the help. Settled on the Bangkok Inter Place. Its next to the stadium and has a car park. Needed, as after the drive from Korat, the next day will be heading to HH for a measly 3 nights!
