Kanklong Superhighway?

Post by Gregjam »

Having ridden a bicycle years ago along what was then a track alongside the klong as far as Palm Hills (basic bike with wife on the back and not a tandem so quite tiring) I was not surprised at the development of the road in line with all the building that has gone on however I was wondering if anyone knows the logic behind it's further expansion into a dual carriageway.
I can see little point in this apart from creating a high speed rat run to increase the income of local hospitals etc. Phetkasem is not that busy and the links between the two road over the railway are rough to say the least.
Are there any plans for a link to Phetkasem or is too much farang logic at work.

I'm not sure of the area you're talking of, but Phetkasem not that busy?!!

Anyway, there'll need to be road expansions if we want to avoid 24/7 gridlock when the blueport development is finished.

As far as I know, this work has been planned for some years. The dual carriageway from Palm Hills will eventually join up with the road going parallel with Petchkasem behind Market Village and on to the fly-over wher it will link up with the road to Panburi. The roads as I understand it will be joined by going across the golf course behind the railway station and joining the klong road at Pai Mai.

The idea is to form an inner bypass and relieving Petchkasem Road (Not busy!!!!) of the 'few vehicles' using it.

I got stuck in both directions heading past Market Village on Sunday. Those "few' vehicles were blocking the road all the way from the flyover back into town past Market Villiage. Boy am I pleased that it was a lazy Sunday with only a "few" people out and about :D

I've a folding-style road-map of this area, bought it years ago, & on it has got a 'proposed new road'..that peels off the Pala-U Rd, thru' the Chinese cemetery at the back of the new Big C, connects with Chomsin, then skirts the base of Hin Lek Fai hill WITHIN the HH royal golf course, & joins Soi 88 near the rail crossing.
I still think a nice big bridge over Chomsin Rd Nr the rail crossing to carry traffic North+South from the Klong Rd Nr Pae mai to a nice new road along the Eastern edge of the golf course may keep things moving a bit better..till the Thais start doing U-turns, or setting up noodle stalls on the bridge..& slim it down to single lane..555!

I am sure only time will tell but forsee more interesting encounters if traffic increases around the main railway crossing. At the moment all I can see is a dual carriageway going to nowhere. Never could understand why they did not allow traffic coming over the bridge from Roowamsook near the 7 11 to turn right. All they did there is cause more U turns. This will also end up happening around the Immigration Office or we will see the usual sub system of bikes having their own two way traffice either side of the road.

I'm sure years ago there were thoughts on making Petcha one way going south with the Klong road one way going north but was rejected at 'palace' level.

Petcha is horrendously busy now particularly over the weekends with BK influxers trying to get into MV

You're right Ricardo..on a weekend a hefty chunk of snarled-up traffic is trying to get into MV..it backs up a long way..the biggest offender tho' is allowing traffic to U-turn just North of MV at the end of the central-barrier..there's no option but to do it..FFS get some U-turn bridges banged up along this road..but as ever HH Amphur does F/A..even when the problem has been in their face for years.. ...Maybe when a new road is running along the back-side of MV..they may..just may have the sense to make a good way-in/out there to relieve Petkasem queues..??

I haven't figured out how they are going to get past the S-bend area. Given how the rail crossing mess was handled there is great potential for a total clusterphuck.

It would help if they actually let cars (other than MV workers) use the upper floors of the car park. In the last 4 months, I've only seen shoppers allowed in the new part of the car park twice :?
