Warning - Floods - More to Come
Warning - Floods - More to Come
Although there is already a thread on the topic of flash floods, I thought it best to start a new thread warning of more floods to come as this is a very serious piece of info! I have heard from more than one source over the next few days (3 days) starting later today, we are going to have more rain and bigger floods than we had on Sunday / Monday. Be prepared and good luck!

One of the worst areas in downtown is the intersection leading to the public beach (it passes Sofitel). Sofitel itself shouldn't have big problems as it's on higher ground. It may be difficult to move around, though, if there's a lot of water in that particular intersection.

I realise this is not HH, but you may be interested (and possibly affected). Our house in Phetchaburi is located on the banks of the River Phet, which has risen 15 (fifteen) feet above its normal level during the past 48 (forty-eight) hours.
The level of the water in the River Phet is controlled almost entirely by the rate of release of water from the Kaeng Krachan reservoir. The water level in the river had been held quite low throughout August, September and the beginning of October. There was a brief eight-foot surge on October 8/9, which receded after 2-3 days. But Monday night they obviously had a fit and decided to open the gates wide, and to hell with the consequences. Now the whole area is flooded.
They did exactly the same thing two years ago, with exactly the same consequences.
What is the moral of this story?
BTW, there were helicopters all over the sky this morning, and the water has receded about 2 inches since lunch-time today.

Another 'gift' from China!
A Thai friend told me he'd heard from Thai TV there's a typhoon due to go through China, Vietnam & then Thailand, & it should start to dump more wet stuff on us around midnight tonight (Friday) -- perfect timing for the weekend!
With typical Thai optimism, he added "but after that, nothing!" That's what he said about the previous floods, as I recall.
Time to stock up on beer, DVDs & move to a different world . . .

A Thai Michael Fish?
As I look out on the bright, warm sunshine & cloudless sky, I am strangely reassured that weathermen remain hopeless guessers the whole world over, east & west. OK, this may not be a bo-bo on the Michael Fish scale but it is still proof that cock-ups occur in weather rooms around the world.
(Having said that, I now await the storm of the century later today, just to spitye me!)

Nope! Still sunny - beautiful skies! Calm. Think the weather men got it wrong.troopie wrote:As I look out on the bright, warm sunshine & cloudless sky, I am strangely reassured that weathermen remain hopeless guessers the whole world over, east & west. Exactly!
I started a thread on this the other day. Where DO you find out what is going on around here anyway? For all its faults ( and it does have a few faults, guys!!) the only place I have found so far with the true story of what's up is HHAD!
I wish there were some local version of CNN online to tap into and get the latest news. . .especially about such things as more rain. Today ( Saturday) is a very sunny day. . .you mean there is another storm coming?? The last one was totally ignored by the Bangkok Post and any weather site I tapped into. ( Though the BKKpost did followup on the floods).

I think we all are short of any "official" news concerning Hua Hin with surroundings. The only news forum with any credibility is HHAD.
Weather forecast for our area is here: http://www.travelthailand.com/weather/h ... recast.php
The best web newspaper is in my opinion the Nation in Bangkok:

I wish we had a newsgroup in HHAD.
Maybe a new tread?
