Greek, Indonesian & Chinese restaurants
Greek, Indonesian & Chinese restaurants
Up to now I have not come across a Greek, Turkish or Indonesian restaurant in Hua Hin. The only Chinese restaurant I know is on the 17th floor of the Hilton Hotel. Does anyone know if there are any of these restaurants in the vicinity of Hua Hin?

As a new member I find that truly sad - only 1 Chinese & no Greek restaurants in Hua Hin - what's the problem?

Maybe there are no Greeks in Hua Hin? Hardly one of the worlds great cuisines.

Yeah, but it's great fun smashing the plates after dinner...
I had some wonderful evenings at a Greek restaurant in Canterbury many years ago, and also at a Turkish restaurant in North London, but I have to confess I'm struggling to think of a reason why there would be a huge demand for these in HH!
A decent Brit-style takeaway kebab would go down a treat though...

I think you'll find it's due to a lack of demand. Not sure about Greek and Turkish food, but most Thais find Chinese food very bland and tasteless.......even the Thai/Chinese Thais feel this way, and to be honest, I don't blame them.

Let The Long Haired General cook you a dish from Chongqing Takiap........ then talk to me about "Chinese" food being bland and tasteless...... oh and lacking in "heat"!!Takiap wrote:Bruce wrote:As a new member I find that truly sad - only 1 Chinese & no Greek restaurants in Hua Hin - what's the problem?

The "Chinese" you get outside of China tends to be Cantonese (sweeter, less spice), and not Chinese. Chinese food itself has many, many variations even within the country itself.... very similar I would say to Thailand(?)

Ok P. Harvey, how about giving us a home recipe?
Can I suggest something simple like stir fried chicken with ginger and vegetables ?
Please make the recipe cooking ingredients and as detailed as possible.
I personally very much miss the taste of good Chinese food, which I have found difficult to replicate, so waiting anxiously to hear.

There is good kebab at Market Village, directly behind the Tesco cashcard drink stand.

Pharvey.........the only Chinese food I've tasted was in South Africa, Britain, and Malaysia. That which I had in South Africa was, in my opinion, actually quite good. On the few occasions I had it in the UK, it really was nothing special, and every time I've tried it in Malaysia, in a predominantly Chinese area, I've felt like giving myself a slap.....lol.
Every time my wife accompanies me to Malaysia, she makes the same mistake. I order a VERY tasty Indian meal, she goes across the road and orders a Chinese meal, and then ends up eating half of mine and leaving hers behind.
Of course I've never been to China so I obviously can't comment on the food there, but if I'm to believe my closest friend, I don't think I would enjoy spending too much time there. My friend works in China (offshore and onshore) and he never has much good to say about his diet in China......lol.
As for the Thais...........I've only known a few that have experienced Chinese food, and all of them have said they don't like it. Saying that, the average Thai only seems to enjoy Thai food, and many aren't even willing to try anything else. In my opinion, they are denying themselves a lot of pleasure.
I think my problem with Chinese food lies in the fact that it generally doesn't tend to include a great deal of meat. Then again, Thai food doesn't either, at least not by SA standards.

I've heard there are loads of Greek restaurants in Greece - lots for sale too.!!
Re: Greek, Indonesian & Chinese restaurants
Chinese food and the myriad of dialect varieties (eg Cantonese, Fuchow, Sezchuan, Shanghainese, Hokkien, Pekingese [not the dog], Teo Chew etc etc) as well as Indian, Indonesian, Nonya/Baba/ Malay food is far more intricate in flavour than ANYTHING the Thais can offer.
God knows what they ate before chillies! Much the same as what did Thai women do before mobile phones in order to communicate ha, ha.
As for Greek/Turkish - would have to be some of the most bland offerings made and is more fitting to the Dark ages where it originates from.
As for Turkish tea - world class IMO.
I vaguely remember a large Chinese restaurant on left going up Phetkasem and not far from van depot in centre of town. Unfortunately very average quality. The Chinese food in Bangas IMO is better than HH as is the Thai food.

How is the CHINESE recipe coming along? - from a recent threadpharvey wrote:^ Shepherd's Pie is made with lamb or Mutton, Cottage Pie with beef. Originated in the north of England/Scotland I believe...

To make Chinese Cottage Pie you just substitute the beef/mutton/lamb with chicken feet and/or duck beaks, and top with rice instead of mashed potato. Once done, sprinkle a little grated bamboo on the top and serve warm.
