Ordering food with those 4 numbers

Post by Arlo »

What or who the F__k works at these places? I have tried to order pizzas tons of times with only to get "Mr please one moment." Over and over. Then my wife orders and has to repeat herself over and over. Its not just pizza. Its all of them . They seem to hire people that have no clue where they work. Sometimes you get a guy with a clue but mostly its someone that can't figure out what you are talking about no matter what language you speak.

After a few tries they figure you out. They now have your phone number and your last order on the computer screen. You most likely will be able to get what you want but that sure as heck isn't 100% for sure.

Now explain to me this. This is just an example. I am in Hua him and I phone the restaurant who has a shop in my town. The shop in my town does not receive my call, my call is sent to another town that takes all the calls for the whole country. They now need to know where I live to deliver my food. How the F__k can I explain to someone somewhere else who has no clue of the layout of the town where I live, or how to get to my home?

Now I decide I want to go on holiday to another town and stay in a hotel. I try to order food but they can't seem to get it through there thick skulls that I am no longer at the last address but in another town at a hotel. Same phone number but different place. I tell them the hotel and they tell me the computer doesn't know the hotel I am staying at. So after 30 mins. Its finally to late to order food and they win.

I know many of you won't or don't order food from these places but I do every now and again. Does anybody other than me and my old lady who is Thai find this frustrating? These are huge corporations that exist around the entire world. Why can't they figure out how to make it easy for us here to order a burger or what ever it is we want to eat? Why can't we call the local B-king and tell them where we are and what we want.?

Thanks for reading my rant.

Never tried it myself, but if I had experienced the same as you, I would give it up as a lost cause and eat elsewhere!!

Done it now and again. No problem.

Spell it out slow and simple and away you go

Done it many times and never had a problem. You can even order online through their website.
Once they have your details, you never have to repeat them as it's all held on computer.

I have ordered loads of times and never had a problem. I always order in English, and they get an excellent English speaker when you ask. (after they say Please one moment)

Do you have a very strong accent? Or live in a particularly way out location?

It is one of the companies I think work really efficiently here.

Never had a problem yet. Then again I live in Bangkok, but this shouldn't really affect delivery schedules. I'm sure they use Caller-ID as on the occasions I've called and ordered they typically ask for a name and it's my wife's name that is registered, not mine. 'She's my wife, same address' gets an OK, no problem and the goods are delivered on time. If you don't have change tell them first (I have a three-hundred baht note, please bring change  )and they'll come prepared.

I typically use my land line number; reading between the lines you're using a mobile? That'll really confuse them. If you're at the hotel, use the hotel phone to order. Or call room service.

Right. I'll get my hat now.

Once you set-up/establish your address it is straightforward thereafter, although last week I did see some lady meet the delivery boy outside the 7-11 to pick up her pizza.

Arlo..you have my sympathies..if ever I was to call same as you did..I know I would get the same result!
If all these forum members can get food no problem then it sounds like there's a 'missing-link' somewhere..??

Also...If everyone is so damn good with '4 number' calls, what about ringing the Highway Police and getting instant results..?? Anyone had to use those numbers..???

We had this problem once with McDonals. They had my girlfriend's previous address in Samui and it took my girlfriend several attempts to explain that she didn't live there anymore.

Only had a problem once, hungover, spent 20 minutes ordering a McMuffin and Hashbrown before they told me it was too far. :( :guns:

Everybody else delivers, including their neighbours American Rib Co.
