Wow! Didn't realise he was 84, I'm sure many remember him as part of their younger lives, for me it was "Jim'll fix it", although he was a DJ etc too.
RIP man.

Re: RIP Jimmy Savile
Very sad news. It was ''Jim'll Fix It'' for me too SF as a kid, but also the London Marathons (and the tracksuits) etc when he was in his 70's ..... great bloke in my book, a little ''out there'', but he did masses for charity (raised some 40 million quid by all accounts) - some of the current ''celebrities'' could learn a lot from what he did.....
RIP Jim, you'll be missed.

Blimey, it's been a bit of a week (or so) for people dying that I admired. First Dan Wheldon (Indy Racing Driver), then Marco Simoncelli (Moto GP), and now dear old Jimmy Saville. The latter had 'a good innings' and even when he was presenting TOTP I thought he was pretty old - and that was quite a few years ago. The other two had their rather dangerous lives ahead of them.
Jimmy lightened a lot of hearts with his 'Fix-It' programme and his cheery personality. I'm sure he can rest in peace with what he achieved on planet earth.

Re: RIP Jimmy Savile
A great character who really made his mark on 'Pop' in the early days - and it is said also gave 90% of his income (plus a lot of time of course) to charity and the hospitals he supported.
I remember him when he started on Radio Luxembourg. Back then it was the only decent music station we had - but throughout his career no-one ever seemed to know just how old he was. It was a very well kept secret.
Another thing I didn't know until yesterday was that Jimmy Savile was responsible for introducing twin turntables, without which DJaying in vinyl days would have been a pain in the butt.
He has certainly left his mark and will be missed by many.
