Goodwood Revival Weekend 2011
I recently attended Goodwood (Sussex) racetrack Revival weekend. As an unreconstructed petrolhead I enjoyed the sight and sound of early 60's Ford Galaxys' take off from the start line chased by the little bangers
Also enjoyed hearing and seeing these supercharged MG K3 go around the circuit. Going to Goodwood is a recommended pilgrimmage to see all things old in racing cars. wondering around the pits was very interesting. The acres of carparks alone were worth a tour around as so many enthusiasts brought their pride and joys along. Of course many cars had 'for sale ' signs. - Dannie Boy

A friend of mine went and he said it was great and he bought a framed photo of Jim Clarke in his Lotus Cortina coming round the bottom bend just down from Druids at Brands Hatch and remembers standing there watching at the time in the early 70's. As well as the cars there were also lots of old British motorbikes and a flyover of some Spitfires - all in all a great day out!!

I also witnessed a fly over of a flight of Spitfires plus a Lancaster accompanied by Spitfire wingmen

OK it seems you will have to join UK nova to get this programme - it is easily done. If not have a look on isohunt.com it is also available there just put goodwood revival in the search box.

I used to help marshall the Bentley Blower day at Goodwood....great place

They are pre-war MG`s. I think the first one is a C type, you can just make out the supercharger sticking out the front, likewise the green one. Very difficult to distinguish which model is which: maybe some PA or PB there as well. I think Icorrectly identified the blue cars as Mg K3's.

What was also great was seeing an E type only race and cobras zinging around the circuit. Music to deafen ears.

No, Reg number RX 8306 is C Type Midget. There is a blue coloured K3 but I do not know the Reg number. If you scroll through that link there is a photo of it.jimbob wrote:I think Icorrectly identified the blue cars as Mg K3's.
Very interesting that you show a photo of the K3 Magnette. My first car, when I was 16 years old, was an 1933 L Type with the same 6 cylinder overhead cam engine. It was a basket case and I started to restore it, but being young and stupid, I did not know what it was and how rare it was. I have since tried to track it down and was told it is now back in the UK, the last Australian owner having passed away and his estate sold it for well over
AUD $100,000.

Nereus, did you swap the MG for an FJ?
In the car park I came across a '50 Ford pilot V8 similar to first car which also was a bush basher.
I wore an Australian Army officer's uniform as part of the fancy dress or revival. Most common 'uniforms' were white boiler suits with black belts maserquading as 30's-50's race mechanics/drivers followed by American army outfits--defintiely fancy dress.

Amongst other things I had a Mk 1 Zephyr Convertible up until I retired and moved back here permanently. I also had a concourse condition 1972 Rover P6, or 3500 as they are sometimes referred to. Also restored a Ferguson TEA 20 tractor, now sold as well.
The collector that now has my Zephyr, has what would have to be the best restored Ford Pilot in Australia.
The MG had some very unique, and for the time, advanced features. It had a cross flow head, the overhead camshaft was driven via bevel gears through the vertically mounted dynamo at the front of the engine. The "tappet" or valve lash, was adjusted by a simple eccentric bush and clamp arrangement on each individual rocker. The lubrication for the chassis and spring hangers was all via copper tubes and brass fittings, run back to a group of grease nipples on each side of the engine bay.
Better stop, starting to try and kick myself again!
