Lawn Bowls - Where in HH?

Post by sjpthsuk »

A while back i remember reading that one of the developments was going to have a Lawn Bowls green within the recreational facilities. Does anyone know if this ever transpired and if it has, available for expats outside of the development to use?

Spit
Pray tell me what this has to do with the subject, as it has me intrigued why i'd be following a van with Sandwhiches and not sandwiches??? I guess you obviously have some logic there somewhere...

Being a Yank, I'm not even sure what lawn bowls are :?

But let me guess that salad sandwiches are the food associated with the games.

Well it is actually funny. If you ever get a chance to see it, there is a very funny Aust movie called Crackerjack which is about a bowling club. Perhaps I see the humour from the perspective of the movie.

Crackerjack (2002)
Genre: Comedy
Tagline: It's on for young and old
Plot: When dwindling membership and increasing overheads makes a local bowling club and prime candidate for a takeover...

Come on Baba

Basil Faulty nearly got a wardolf salad right for a yank :)

I would be interested but the sandwiches must be cucumber with the crusts cut off and cut into trianges and a cup of cha out of a bone china cup

:D

My apologies for being too abstract, nuances at play there along with a dash of sarcasm (as 'lawn bowls' is a long shot here), I suppose you have to be British and come from outside the cities to appreciate that one, which there are often few around of that catagory, superficially anyhow..

Yes Migrant, that food is associated (in the UK) with sports of this nature and all the connotations (sometimes negative) that go with it, think of the English country gent image and you won't go far wrong.

BTW sjpthsuk, no-one was replying so I thought I get the thread going with an "answer" of some type, maybe not perfect but it got replies, might have even got a reply to your question, but sadly not. Nothing wrong with that, get involved everyone and post, be forthright and speak.

Hi Spitfire mate,
Southampton is not only home to that great plane, we also have the oldest bowling green in the world.

There are bowling greens everywhere in the UK - cities and country. When I lived in SW London, there was one around the corner and now there is one literally opposite my house!

I'm tempted to have a crack myself and although mainly middle aged up, I've been surprised at the number of younger players.

With an aging ex-pat community in Hua Hin, this could be a good business opportunity - could even host a Pom v Aussies international!

Just an adaptation of the ancient game of Bocce, correct? Pete

I must admit it was something I'd forgotten about, but being back in Blighty for a while I was pleasantly surprised to see a very active bowling club in action when I visited Weymouth two weeks ago.
