Anyone stayed there recently ?

I just want to know the general condition of the rooms/hotel as places tend to deteriorate and don't resemble the pics on the website.

Thanks in advance.

So no one stayed there in the last year or so ? I am surprised as it's right in the centre of the bar area with swimming pool, balconies, room safes etc and reasonable price. Mind you I didn't know it existed until someone in one of the nearby bars pointed it out told me it's a nice place. :?

I'm sure there have been some recent reviews of the place. Try a search and see what you come up with.
Also remember that a lot of us here are expats or regular visitors who stay in their own homes or tried and tested accommodation so it's difficult to give personal recommendations.
Hope you get the information that you want.

Cheers Lomu : I did search the accommodation section. I will book anyway if i don't hear anything and maybe reply to my own request after I have stayed and review the place. :thumb:

I used to stay there before I got my own place about a year and a half ago

it was always clean and secure, and the rooms are pretty good value considering its got a pool for a mid afternoon dip.

The people who run it are nice and friendly, and it is "girl friendly".

Its also got a stable net connection, but the main seller is its central and staggering distance from the bars.

Try and get a room at the back as they are quieter.

sand inn is good value for money and is run by a thai family, clean rooms, room safes, cable tv, they just got wi fi internet, good pool, laundry service, taxi service to anywhere you want to go, rooms facing poon suk rd are a bit noisy so go for rooms overlooking pool, good bar and big screen tv's...lady who runs motel is very helpful and speaks good english...be nice to her she's well connected..>!!!

Sand Inn

Received confirmation of my booking yesterday for late July. I may take the opportunity to have a look at a couple of others while I am there for future reference which were similar standard and price : Euroguesthouse, Monthana House, Tanawit and Sakulwilai. :thumb:

Thanks for all replies.

Stayed in Sand Inn last year. Didn´t like it much. Rooms very run down and partisan. Pool is ok but very small. For that standard it is very expensive, we payed 1200, absolutely not worth the price.
The thai lady running the place is very nice though.

Thanks Sugen77, it seems to have mixed reviews. I have booked it anyway in July for 900 baht incl American b/f but not paid in advance so if not good value I will move after a trial.

I tend to use the pool to lay beside and cool down in, not for swimming lengths so OK with that. :thumb:

Sand Inn and other town accommodation

Post by Pagey »

Review of Sand Inn as promised.

Paid 800 baht per night without b/f and had a room with a balcony overlooking the pool.

The room was very old, dated, with a dirty looking floor and an old very tired bathroom. The shower was like the type of hose you attach to the bath taps, very basic and old.

Staff were friendly and the view from the balcony OK but I would only expect to pay 450 - 550 Baht for a room of that quality. I only stayed 1 night.

As it was low season both Jailhouse and M & A Guesthouse on Poonsuk had walk in offers of only 400 baht per night for better quality accomodation.

I am looking for somewhere in October and looked at the following:-

I looked at the rooms in Fat Cat which had fantastic views of the pier from the balcony rooms but the tiniest bathrooms I have ever seen and very old re painted furniture and still wanted 900 Baht per night with a balcony or 600 without.

Supasuda (I think thats the spelling) on Chomsin had very nice rooms for around 700 per night or 850 with a balcony.

Baan Chalelarn Hotel on Chomsin looked nice and had rooms for 1,000 per night incl American B/F.

2nd-home Thailand property agent have rooms above their promise on Poonsuk opposite the plaza. Their rooms were occupied so I only saw photos but they looked nice and new with big balcony, room safe and unusually, tea making facilities. However at 950 per night not cheap. (I am paying that in high season 24/12 onwards, for a similar room incl English b/f)

Baan Manthana Hotel had rooms for 800 Baht incl room safe and balcony and will discount to 700 Baht for long stay (2 weeks) but I never had chance to see their rooms.

I had previously emailed Sukiwahli (spelling?) on Bintabaht and got a quote of 1,000 Baht but while drinking in one of the bars opposite I noticed they had a board outside offering rooms for 600 Baht.

My advice for low season, and some business owners don’t think there will be a high season this year, is book your first night by internet then look around for offers.

Where did I stay when I left Sand Inn? I found a little gem with only one room which is nearly new with a balcony, a big bathroom, big fluffy towels, a plate of fruit in my fridge every day, friendly staff, and a full english breakfast no matter what time I ventured out of bed, for which I paid 700 Baht per night as it was low season. (I am paying 950 from24/12 to 05/01 in the same place).

I have tried to re book it for my stay in October but someone else who has stayed there before has beat me to it :cuss: and booked from 2 nights after I arrive so I will stay there for 2 nights and look around for a good offer.

I hope this may be useful for anyone looking for reasonable accommodation in the town below 1,000 baht. :thumb:

Thanks for the update on Sand Inn - funny place, should have more potential in that location. Must be some 'Issues' of ownership or similar at a guess.

A few years back the Ground floor area was almost completely overgrown with creepers and other vegetation. The place looked totally deserted but people were apparently still staying there.

You just needed a machete to hack a way through to the bar...

Baan Manthana is fine. The rooms are decent size and everything is new enough. If there is one criticism, some of the older towels could do with being washed at a higher temperature - they don't always smell particularly fresh when they get damp. I stayed there for about 6 weeks over mid Nov 07 to week 1 of Jan 08 and found no reason to leave. Pool was clean and I used it several times. Girl friendly, quiet and very handy for the night market. A bit more of a walk to the bars, but not so far that it matters.

Closer in, the better ones I've used that were OK are Puang Pen villa, Jed Pee Nong and the one across from World Coffee, down the entrance with the massage girls, though I've forgotten the name. There's also Thipurai City, which tends for some odd reason to have lots of technical issues (blocked toilets, tripped out water heaters, faulty aircon etc), but breakfast is included; and Royal Asia Suites (main building is better).

The Sukwilai I was not impressed, nor the White Sands (never again. ever)

Most of them are a bit more than Manthana, but not much and closer to the action, such as it is these days. But I'd be more than happy to go back to Manthana.
