Chris (Guess) hospitalised

Post by Norseman »

A message written by Buksida:

It will come as sad news to many on this forum that Chris has been stuck in hospital in Chumphon recovering from a perforated stomach ulcer for around a month now. This will explain his absence from the board and his local leagues. He is in a less than comfortable government hospital following three operations, in a ward with dying patients, with an escalating medical bill that he has no way of covering alone.

Many will know Chris from his time running the Sugar Cane bar in town, organising pool leagues and his contributions to this forum. We are asking HHAD members to come together during this season of good will and donate anything they can to help in what could be a life saving situation. Around 80 thousand baht has already been raised by his friends here and in Bangsaphan however this is estimated to be about a third of what is actually required.

So please, anything you can give will be greatly appreciated by this person in need. You can PM myself or Norseman for bank details to make transfers or if you would like his phone number to send a message of support.

Thank you for reading this.
I intend to live forever - so far so good.

This is really sad news indeed.

Chris has been a stalwart of the Hua Hin Community for more years than I've been here.

I urge everyone to help with a donation of some kind. I will, as of tomorrow, have a collection box in the shop, all donations to go directly to helping with the medical costs.

It is my understanding, (correct me if I am wrong, please) that his costs are so high because of a (botched, mistake, bad) first operation, that left him with an open stomach, unable to eat or drink for over 10 days.

Please, during this season of goodwill, contribute what you can to help. It's time the expat community became just that, a community, for the betterment of all of us. Please help if you are able.

Thank You.

Dave

Hope I'm not acting out of place by informing everyone that Don (who was shot five times) bills have just hit 4 million baht. He's had very few visitors. Some moral support would lift his spirits I'm sure.

He's in Bangkok Hospital.

Mr P
I don't think your out of place at all

I know Don and Chris and from personal experience know only too well how you can run up bills in hospitals here. My insurance company refused to pay after my long stay in the Bumrungrad citing it as a hospital not recognised in the UK.

PM'd Dolly a couple of times but do not know the details

My thoughts are with both these guys and their wives and families

If I had the dosh I'd help out but have to think about my own future in these troubled financial times and my belief is that it is going to get worse for all of us over the next couple of years

Maybe the lottery (UK and Thai) will shine favorably on me, then I can help

Not sure of these guys insurance cover but maybe a charity event (BB?) would raise support

:(

Sounds like an excellent idea.

For such a worthy cause, I would think a series of fund raising events could bring a lot of pleasure to the participants, a lot of kudos to participating bars and most importantly take a lot of pressure from the victims needing help.

Come on guys, nobody plans to get in to difficulty, but it must be a great relief to know your brother ex-pats are getting behind you when you need it.

Good one BB

When I said (BB) I meant Buff Bill. He seems to be be the man for charitable events

Another thought for all and sundry. How about an HHAD shindig in say JW's? Voluntary entrance fee and some eats and good music?

Just a thought :D

In all honesty Mr Plum, I have no idea if Don is in need of financial help from me or any other member of this board as I don't know him personally.
None of his friends, nor Dolly, have asked for any help from us but if any of Don's friends wishes to start a fund raising campaign for Don, then please feel free to do it.

Chris on the other hand is a personal friend and I've known him for many years.
What we, his friends and I are trying to do, is to help him financially so that he will be able to get back to England for a better treatment thus saving his life.
But first of all we must see to that the Chumphon (public) Hospital will receive payment for the operations and treatment up to now.

I don't know Chris, other than he has answered some pm's and offered some kindness. I would be happy to contribute from afar, here in S. California if there is a way to do so without eating up my meager funds with fees.

I know I contributed to Dawns rescue fund before, perhaps through paypal??

I'm very sorry to hear about Chris' situation. I'd heard that he had ulcer problems around late November, but then he had posted a couple of things so I assumed he was OK.
Sadly, now back in the UK, I'm faced with overdraft situation again, so with the best will in the world can't offer anything except very best wishes. Is there an address someone could pm me please?
Meanwhile JDs proposed help, and others' ideas for fund raising, are a reassuring sign that the HH community can pull together. Hopefully Chris can be helped to return to the UK for treatment, or to get better treatment in LOS.

I'm so sorry to hear of Chris's health problems. If anyone goes to see him, could you please pass on my best wishes for a speedy recovery?

I'm not exactly flush myself, but Lindosfan & I were talking about this with regards to fundraisers. Seeing as we already have a fundraiser planned at YOBT on 10th January for HRD, we'd like to donate 10% of the entrance fee to Chris's hospital fees and all of the proceeds from a photo quiz we'll be doing on the night, also. We'll also have a collection box there for Chris, should anyone wish to give a bit more. Hope that will help a little.

Wishing you all the best, Chris.
