What happened to my Internet Explorer?

Post by hhfarang »

First, before all you geeks (me included in that somewhat) flame me, I use FireFox on a daily basis and am a firm believer that it is the best browser out there.

That said, some websites require IE. Somehow, sometime, my IE has gone away. Not really gone away, but any visible traces of it have. I noted in an earlier forum that I was having trouble opening it so I downloaded and installed IE 7. Now, I have no "visible" trace of IE on my system at all! I know it is there because there are some websites that if you click on content will open it automatically and that happens (and I checked and it is IE7).... but, there is no shortcut visible on the desktop, in the quick launch, nor in the "start" or "all programs" menu. I even looked through the folder where program files are stored and there is no trace of it. Now, I've heard that in XP it is actually imbedded into the OS some way so maybe that's why I can't find it.

But... for those rare instances where I do want to use it I would like a way to launch it, as in a shortcut.

Can anyone tell me how to create one when I can't even locate the program?

Thanks, HH

Easiest way if you are using XP is: Control Panel/Start Menu/Advanced and select the browser of your choice - I E 7 should be an option,. Then when it appears on your start menu right click the Icon and select "Create Desktop Shortcut"

Good luck.

Sarge, I have one of those too that I've been keeping alive with mouth to mouse for eight years!

But, I guess I'm not the geek I thought I was because I just used the link that BaaBaa has given me twice now to install something called IE tabs into my FireFox and (even though I read the description page), I still don't quite understand how to use it or what this does for me.

Oh well, it'll give me something to do this afternoon trying to figure it out.

Maybe I've just killed (read that drowned) too many brain cells since I retired from the business...

Got it! Switching the rendering engine of a web page by clicking the little icon in the lower right corner of the frame. Can't wait until I run into another of those pages that says it only works with IE so I can try it on one of those!

Thanks again BaaBaa! :thumb:

Internet Explorer has a virus or something in my computer. Whenever I go into IE after only a few minutes I get a box that comes up. Says it is "microsoft internet explorer" and that I have a virus that is going to cuase the world to end if I don't click continue.

When you click cancel it immediately starts to download. The only way to stop it is to is to pull the power or disconnect the internet.

It use to come on after a long usage of the computer now it comes on after only a minute or two.

Use firefox so only went into IE to check something on my favorites. Now I do not go into IE.

Before someone ask, I don't run any kind of protection as When I had it in the past it made the system painstakingly slow. Don't have any info on the computer anyone would want to steal. No banking, secrets or anything of interest.
