Not really any major upsets in yesterday’s fixtures - I wonder whether Plymouth Argyle coudl be grabbing the headlines by the end of the day?

:lach:

Liverpool got what they deserved after disrespecting Plymouth Argyle. As soon as I saw that Liverpool team, I just knew it was game on.

Arne Slot says, "Plymouth were a bit lucky."

There was no luck involved, it was his incompetent team selection/no big guns on the bench to bale the kids out.

I only watched the few minutes of highlights and it looked a bit of a scrappy game but well done Argyle in pulling off the upset of the round - most “giant/killings” involve a bit of luck, but it’s often earned by hard work.

More importantly, can it lift them in their quest for survival?

It was a hard game, and the Liverpool kids were very good. Some valiant defending by the 2 new centre-backs (Argyle's hope for survival). Only one person to blame for the result though - Arne Slot was too complacent.

I don't know how accurate the statement was, but the commentator did say at one point that the Liverpool 11 were valued at £250M and the Plymouth 11 were valed at £2M. I think the Plymouth value is low when considering a few recent signings. I've no idea about the Liverpool valuation, but it wouldn't surpise me given current transfer fees.

If the Liverpool value is even close to being right, I suppose Arne Slot could be excused for thinking they could do a job for him.

A nice distraction to the relegation battle. I'm more interested in Wednesday's result. They've patched the holes in their defence, and providing they can get 3 points against an on form Millwall, there is a feint hope.

This has been discussed previously in a Round-about-way, but picking Plymouth for obvious reasons....

A Home Tie vs Liverpool and the simple fact that they were in the 4th Round must have earned the club (and the City) a few well earned coffers. The fact that they've now progressed to the 5th Round and meeting Man City away must surely make a significant difference to their finances.

I guess the majority of earnings goes to the "Home Side", but the Etihad holds 50+ K from memory. I do understand BB's woes with the FA Cup vs League (survival) but surely this is a Godsend in a way.... A hammering on the cards, but a paycheque that gives a boost for growth.

The question is, do Plymouth play their Full Team out of respect to their fans, or rest "Key Players" for the League?

Gate receipts are split 50/50, so theoretically not too much money there. They'd make more in a league game as Home Park is close to capacity most games. They'll make a bit from the Etihad, if there's enough support, but they may drop admission prices to encourage bums on seats against a lowly Plymouth.

The real money really comes from TV broadcasting. As they've dumped 2 Premier sides out of the cup, they may get a good billing.

Already on Sunday, one of their recently aquired potential savours went off injured. They need to think bread and butter, and that is the battle to stay in the Championship.

Ok I found the video clip of the game between Plymouth and Liverpool and I don’t disagree it was a penalty, but as for “cheating” as BB claims I do disagree, it was simply an incident in the game that happens and the ref awarded a penalty, so where’s the cheating - players quite often find their arms in what is called “an unnatural” position, it just sometimes happens in a split second and the body does something quite natural, I’m sure the player isn’t thinking “I’ll raise my hands here and try to stop the ball with my hands”? Anyway it’s a pointless debate, so I’ll leave you to have the last word BB!!

I wouldn't have said a word, if it wasn't for the constant stream of claims by various members of Liverpool FC, including Elliott that it was a legitimate move/play or whatever you may call it. If he thinks puting his arms in the air like that, and claiming it is legitimate - challenging the referee's decision, I call it cheating.
