Any Sci-Fi fans out there?

Post by buksida »

Two of my favourite SF authors are Ben Bova and Ian (M) Banks, also like anything by John Wyndham and Michael Crichton. Other great books I've been through are Ender's Game, Decipher (Stel Pavlou) and of course Douglas Adams' Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy many moons ago.

Any other Sci-Fi fans out there with recommendations for newer stuff?

We could also get onto movies. :thumb:

Get yourself to a book swap, man - I thought I was the only sf/fantasy reader in town!

Orson Scott Card wrote the Enders series and anything by him is worth reading. I think I have one or two tucked away. Have you tried Stephen Donaldson (the Covenant Trilogy, now extended by a few more)? It depends whether you like hard, futuristic sf or a combination. There's a 'Freedom' series by Anne McCaffrey (and A N Other) that's good, but I've had to read what I could out of order, which is irritating.

Older names - Raymond G Feist was someone who never let me down. The Bova Mars trilogy was good. Haven't come across anyone newer than Banks since I've been here.

Most SF movies I've seen have been disappointing (erm, with the exception of Star Wars, obviously...). Nobody has topped 2001 yet.

Hmm book swap ... I'd thought about going but am rather protective of most of my books so don't fancy giving them away (unless I knew they were coming back!).

One definitely recommended the Otherland series by Tad Williams, makes the Matrix look like childsplay:
