Hallo there Y'all HHAD Friends and felllas!!!

Villa is finally opening for the General Public. Great!!! What suprises me that the actual store is a bit around the corner from Petchkasem Rd. I can't wait to get to Hua Hin in 2 weeks time. Excuse me Mrs. Margeret Graves to you know if there's enough parking space @ Villa Supermarket? If yes than there will be no problems for us to stop and shop and leave afterwards without worry if I had parked them Cars now,

:lach: Hello, Mo, and probably goodbye as well. But at least looking at your extensive posting history gave me the chance to stumble across this classic (hopefully tongue-in-cheek) post from Guess 3 years ago, referring to English breakfasts...
I don't understand what all the discussion is about. You can buy Cornflakes in the shopping mall along with low fat milk. Fresh fruit is available almost everywhere. What more could anybody want.
This is the way

We just got back from Villa market.....parked by the hospital on the way into town and got dry goods, then went to Home Pro and came back to get meat and stuff.....several parking spaces were available in the Villa parking lot.

For us the selection was even better than anticipated. I got beef bologna, beef hot dogs and some corn bread mix.......and unbelievably some dried lima beans and some real "yellow" cheddar cheese........I are in heaven!!

Hope you all come away as happy as we did....it was like going to the store back in California.

Nobody spotted that at the time that I can recall. I think they were still drooling over baked beans.

I do actually eat Cornflakes and milk with fruit sometimes for breakfast but an hour later I need something more substantial.

I have just had sausage, eggs, bacon, beans and two toast which will last me well into the afternoon when I will get my Masaman curry and fried Roti.

They say you learn something new every day. I have always thrown it away when it turns yellow. I thought that it was just one step away from growing a green fur jacket.

Anyway I am impressed. I assume you can get chocolate chip cookie dough and Monterey Jack as well just like Safeways in Sunnyvale.

Ben and Gerry's?? Chilli dogs?? Corn Chips with Chilli Cheese dips?? Clam Chowder and Sour Dough??

or am I asking too much.

Fed up
Looking at this thread I think if you take the by pass road to Pranburi. Macros is on the right as you approach the town.
There you will be able to purchase pigs bollocks and eat them. :D
I am looking forward to going to market villa later today.

Well, been in there. Nicely laid out. Loads of attentive staff. Good selection of chilled goods, wines & imported stuff. Deli was a bit smaller than I would have expected.

Cons? Well, for me to do a decent shop in there, I'd have to decide not to pay my rent for that month. Very expensive (for someone on Thai money) Never going to take littl'un in there. He would never understand why I won't buy cereal for 250bt or candies or crisps for 150 bt each bag...

Nice for a browse, but I don't think I'll be a regular... :(

Thank you very much Mrs. Dawn

For you rewiev of Villa Supermarket. The rewiev was really helpful as what prices I can expect @ the new Villa Supermarket. Ohh my Buddha! Breakfast cereals for 250 Baht and a Bag of CHips/Crisps for 150?!!!
Rip Off Artists!!!
Or They simply pass on the high cost of transportation of these imported goddies onto (mainly Expat) consumers.
I can get a Bag of German Potato Chips/Crisps here in Bangkok for 69 Bhat Max.
I'm wondering how much the same bag of Crisps/Chips would cost in Pattaya which is right acros the Bay/Rim from Cha Am.
Hmm... I will decide after my first visit @ Villa Supermarket if I become a regular there. Chances are most likely not!!!

Guess -

I learned after we moved here that Cheddar cheese is colored yellow in the states when they make it, I don't know why. It took me awhile to get used to eating white cheese but somehow cheddar just doesn't taste the same if it isn't yellow.

I didn't see any of the things you mentioned except I think they had Ben and Jerrys. Don't worry, there will be lots of fun foods to choose from! We were giggling like kids looking at all the stuff we saw. I had to hit three extra trays of golf balls to get ready for the corn bread I'm going to stuff myself with tonight......after my first bologna sandwich in two years, and a healthy dose of Pepperidge farm cookies for desert.

Don't know how often you are in town but if you want to send a wish list I'll be happy to check it out for you.

Thanks, Understudy.

Can I just make clear that my wording may not have been chosen wisely? I meant 'cons' as in pros & cons, not as in scams. If someone wants to pay 250bt for breakfast cereal & has the money to do so, I guess it's up to them.

Your points about the mark-ups charged are very interesting. Thank you. :)

I used to know the old Thai gentleman that started Villa (K. Siripong) The last time that I enquired he was still coming in regularly to the original Sukhumvit shop, at the age of eighty. He had a philosophy that is very rare in Thailand; and that was that the customer is what makes the business.

Met the man today and he had his notepad out and writting down a few requests we had. Prepared Indian curries at the fresh food counter, Basmati rice etc.
Great wine selection and we counted 20 different tequillas alone.
Yes some of the prduce was quite expensive, but to see some good salad greens in this area was a joy. The milk and yogurt was better priced than anywhere in town and it was nice to see good cuts of red meat for a change. Hoping for some "supermarket wars" like Bkk had a few years ago when they opened Central. That would hopefully bring the quality up and the prices competetive.

That was obviously after I went. I was hoping for something like that & there was nothing.

Where have you been shopping? I've been able to get them for ages. Minifarm, for example?

Again, no idea where you've been shopping. The only improvement in dairy I saw (unless you want to spend loads) was Greek style yoghurt for 19bt. That was good. As for the red meat - without tasting it (which would be the ultimate test), again, comparable or better (in price & availability) has been available in HH for a while (IMO)
