Hua Hin - whats it all about

Hey guys, im new here and am planing my second trip to los, ive booked my flight for 18 nights in october, originally i had decided on pattaya but i dont want to spend all my time there so i was thinking of heading down to hua hin, as id heard its nice. But im not too sure what type of place it is.

Is it more of a phuket type, relaxed nice beaches with a reasonable amount of sleeze

or

Pattaya - full hardcore in your face non stop sleeze.



my first trip was to phuket and i loved it, i was told though that pattaya is better so i booked there, however the more i hear about pattaya the more i think its a little to over the top, i like to party but im not all about the sex.

Hua hin from what i can gather is quite close to pattya and is reachable by taxi?

So, if i was looking nice clean beaches at day time. mabye a good cinema and alot of nice shops, then alot of beer bars at night with a not too in your face scene would hua hin be a good choice?

Spend a couple of nights in Bangkok at the start and end of your trip. Come to Hua Hin for the other 2 weeks. Khao Takiab is a good place to stay and has a nice beach - 10 minutes by Tuk Tuk to Hua Hin. A taxi from Hua Hin to Pattaya will take about 5 hours. Pattaya is either heaven on earth or Hell on earth depending on your preferences. Personally I think its Hell. You'll have a good time in Hua Hin. Come and ENJOY!

5 Hours is quite along time. I thought mabye one or two hours at most. Do people usually fly between hua hin and pattay or bangkok and hua hin?

I dont want to go out in bangkok, it seems overly expensive and from what i can see the two areas of nana and soi cowboy are tiny and nana is contained to one three story building. Plus i heard patpong is a rip off.

If i was to go to hua hin id want to stay close to the action, i.e walking distance. i dont like the idea of taxis back and forward.

Hua Hin us somewhere between Phuket and Pattaya in terms of sleaze. You will get everything you mentioned in Hua Hin except for the clean beaches. However you don't have to travel very far to find clean beaches.

Near is a relative term. Hua Hin can be reached by taxi in about 5 hours or less but you would not be wanting to do the journey regularly.

As for the cinema, it is very controversial at the moment. They dub movies in Belgian Walloon and Redneck Arkansas so only a few can understand the plot.

Thats not true at all. Phuket is way in front of Hua Hin for sleaze. You will not get pole dancers on bars in HH nor the proliferation of bars that Bangla Road has.

HH was once described to me as 'the old man's place' and I occasionally use that phrase myself to describe it when young people at work ask what it is like.

Just my opinion after visiting Phuket last March.

dont know who told you HH is sleazier than Phuket but maybe they were in a different HH from the rest of us.

On the Sandman NAROK scale of sleaze Patayya scores a 10, just above Soddom & Gammorah. Pole dancers, Yabba heads, Russians and stag trips. Hell on earth. Throw in some Cenobites and the place would be complete.

Phuket scores a 6.....less of the above but still an undercurrent of "urk" about the place. Too farangified for me.

HH scores a 5....maybe a 4. Sleaze is contained in a small blok like the Amsterdam red light area.... plenty of other stuff, decent food, and some nice beaches. Farangified but still mostly thai feeling, especially at the weekends when the BKK so-hi's lot invade.

Torquay would score a 2, Budderliegh Salterton a 1.

If y do come down and want some decent beachyness then take the tip above and stay in Kho Takiab..... miles of empty beach during the weekdays and some decent places to stay. 10 mins in a tuk tuk to HH central.

Forget the cinema......unless you go specially to punch the manager on the nose.

I think Guess is spot on with this. I'd say its actually closer to Pattaya.
When, or if, this catamaran service is up and running, HH will definately be closer to Pattaya.

Sandman, you can't have been to Devon recently? Budleigh scores a -10. But I would say that Torquay is sleazier than HuaHin; in HH you're much less likely to catch a STD or get your head kicked in.

Though I've not been to Patong since the tsunami, certainly it used to be much much much sleazier than HuaHin.

There is no sleeze in Hua Hin. Trust me. A few ladies in some bars willing to play pool with you and a few lady massage willing to give you a happy.

But no sleeze......

except in the property market and that could be rated an 8 or 9.
