Renewing UK Passport

Coming up to time I need to get a new passport. Now, unless things have changed since I got my last one 9 years ago, when you get a new UK passport they keep the old one. Given that my OA visa stamp will be in the old passport, how do I get it into my new passport ? that is given that I will not have my old passport to show to HH immigraton to get a new stamp in the new one.

I renewed mine in November Higgy and my old one was posted back to me seperately, it just had a corner clipped from the front cover.

Same here. Renewed mine at The Embassy in person and they asked if I wanted to get the old one back when I went for collection. I said yes and the corner was cut off. I didn't have a visa - just a 30 day stamp, so didn't have to go through the rigmarole of transferring anything.
I'd make sure that HH can transfer the visa over. I know it can be done in BKK and maybe I'm mixing it up with Work Permits and the like getting transferred, but I'd check locally.
As an aside, when I next did a 30 day border hop in Sungai Kolok, I managed to get everyone confused. Handed the old passport in on the Thai side - it had the entry stamp - and was told it was old, so no good. Presented the new one and after a bit of head scratching, I was stamped out on the OLD passport.
Thought something wasn't right, but walked over the bridge to Malaysia anyway. Handed the new passport in and they were bemused by no exit stamp. A senior officer had a word with me and said he had to see the exit stamp in the new passport to give me entry to Malaysia. So, back over the bridge to Thailand and after 5 mins or so, Imm finally understood what the problem was and cancelled the first exit stamp and reissued in the new passport. All was well on the other side, but I was sick and tired of the bridge, especially when it occured to me that I could be spending the rest of my days on it in no man's land

Renewed mine at British Embassy in person. They sent the new one plus the old one with the visa in back after about 6 days using EMS. I would go for a 48 page one rather than a 32 as the re-entry stamps use up so much space. As soon as I got my new passport I went to immigration and they put the visa into my new passport. No problems.

Same same Niggle - in fact I thought it was standard procedure to get your old PP back as it is in England.

Lucky renewal only takes short time in Bangkok.
Taking 25 working days plus, in Australia at the moment!

Both my children's UK passports have expired some time ago. They are 7 and 10. Can anyone tell me the procedure for getting new UK passports for them and how long that's likely to take?

I'm afraid I can't help you specifically here, but take a look at this link:

The Embassy changed their website a little while ago and I must admit that I find it confusing now. The old one seemed pretty straightforward.
Send them an email - address on RHS under "passport services". In my experience, they're very good and quick at replying.

just renewed my kids (11 & 14) - filled in forms on-line, posted them and got the new passports + old ones (with corenrs clipped as per other posts) within 2 weeks. no sweat .....
