MotoGP fans snap up 10K tickets in minutes
Grandstand tickets for the season-opening PT Grand Prix of Thailand 2025 were sold out within minutes after the sale opened on Thursday while organisers announced their readiness to host the prestigious MotoGP event in Buri Ram next month.
All 10,000 tickets were reportedly snapped up in two minutes and 55.24 seconds, breaking last year's record, with other stands filling up even faster than in previous years.
Thailand will host the MotoGP opening race for the first time, marking Southeast Asia's first season start in 25 years.
The Thai leg in the MotoGP calendar normally takes place in October but has been rescheduled to be a season opener for the 2025 and 2026 seasons.

Methinks some serious profiteering is going on, the site that supposed to sell them also doesn't function which is no surprise. Looks like its the Malaysian GP again for us this year since hotels in Buriram are also 5X the price that weekend.

Re: MotoGP
Yes, obviously something very corrupt with the ticket sales. I went to the ASEAN Football Cup Final last weekend, where ticket sales were online, and completely sold out in 2 hours.
When we arrived at the stadium, we were approached by dozens of touts, all with stacks of tickets for sale. However, they weren't of the online ticket variety that we had, but hard copy, ticket office produced. If the tickets were sold online, where did the hard copy, ticket office produced tickets come from? Not a single tout was selling online tickets similar to ours.
There were so many hard copy, ticket office produced tickets in fans hands as we were queuing to pass through the turnstiles, I was starting to wonder if my ticket was going to be accepted.

Race weekend starts in Buriram today
The official practice for the 2025 MotoGP championship's season-opening race takes place at the Chang International Circuit in Buri Ram on Friday.
The Grand Prix of Thailand 2025 will be without Spanish world champion Jorge Martin, who has been ruled out for an indefinite period of time after undergoing surgery for fractures to his left hand suffered in a fall.
Italian Lorenzo Savadori will replace Martin and compete alongside compatriot Marco Bezzecchi for Aprilia.
Six-time world champion Marc Marquez has joined Italian double champion Francesco Bagnaia in the Ducati team.
Spaniard Marguez had an impressive pre-season testing in Buri Ram earlier this month and will be one of the favourites for the title this weekend.
Meanwhile Somkiat Chantra, the first Thai rider to line up in the premier class, will make his historic debut in front of his home fans.
Somkiat will saddle up alongside French teammate Johann Zarco for LCR Honda.
It's the first time Thailand hosts the season opener and the first time the season starts in Southeast Asia since 1999.
The race weekend begins with today's practice session. Tomorrow's programme features another practice session, a qualifying round and a sprint race while the main race will take place on Sunday.

Decided to skip Thailand again and aim for the Malaysian GP due to the ticketing and accommodation farce here. Going to KL still works out at half the price even with a flight!

Re: MotoGP
Settled down to watch the races yesterday afternoon, and bloody typical, its not shown anywhere on Thai TV anymore (previously PPTV36) because the country's favourite monopoly has taken over ... so now Thais have to pay to watch one of the country's largest sporting events (and pay way over the odds for tickets if they can get them).
Back to downloading for me, which has the bonus of eliminating all the incessant advertising on Thai broadcasts.

Re: MotoGP
Looks like the event is coming to an end anyway, and this stinks of a political power play. Anutin and Newin pretty much own Buriram and seem to have pissed off Thaksin ...
Govt pulling support for MotoGP in Thailand, says Newin
Thailand has successfully organised MotoGP motorcycle racing for many years, but the government has suddenly decided to end its essential support, according to politician-turned-sports-promoter Newin Chidchob.
Mr Newin, chairman of Chang International Circuit in Buriram province, wrote on Facebook on Sunday night that the Sports Authority of Thailand officially informed him that the government would not extend its contract with the world MotoGP organisers after next year's event in Thailand.
Unless the government changed its mind, MotoGP 2026 in Buriram would be the last event of its kind in Thailand.
Mr Newin is seen as the de facto leader of the coalition Bhumjaithai Party, which is involved in a heated dispute with the coalition leader, Thaksin Shinawatra's Pheu Thai, over land ownership. The Minister for Tourism and Sports is Sorawong Thienthong, a Pheu Thai MP.
Mr Newin said the government's decision was regretful.
The MotoGP event cost the government no more than 500 million baht a year. Private sector sponsorship brought in at least 300 million baht.
“But this results in the circulation of more than 5 billion baht in all, which boosts business and stimulates the economy,” he wrote.
