Oscar-winning US actor Gene Hackman and his wife Betsy Arakawa have been found dead at their home in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

In a career that spanned more than six decades, he received two Academy Awards, two Baftas, four Golden Globes and a Screen Actors Guild Award.

A statement from the Santa Fe County Sheriff in New Mexico said: "We can confirm that both Gene Hackman and his wife were found deceased Wednesday afternoon at their residence on Sunset Trail.

"This is an active investigation - however, at this time we do not believe that foul play was a factor."............

Yes, have just seen this on the news - bit of a strange one. Obviously still ongoing, but you'd have to suspect something like Carbon Monoxide poisoning as a possibility (no foul play suspected).

Regardless, a great actor and one of my favourites. Far too many films to mention... R.I.P.

My thoughts exactly, but it's pure "Guess-work" and taking things away from his achievements as an actor, his sad passing and that of his wife (and pooch).

With regards to his career, for me it was his ability to appeal to different generations, play very diverse characters from Drama, Violence to Comedy and be very humble with it and the awards he deservedly won.

According to the Daily Telegraph: "Gene Hackman and his wife were found dead in separate rooms of their Santa Fe home and there were no obvious signs of a gas leak, detectives said."

It's strange also that one dog was dead, but two other healthy dogs were found on the premises. Police say there are no suspicious circumstances (!) but at the same time they 'are not ruling anything out'.

I don't think discussing this takes anything away from his achievements at all, but idle speculation is always so much useless chatter. So I'll wait to see further developments; I guess causes of the deaths is the main factor to determine.

Yes absolutely, a career spanning four decades and effortlessly/believably portraying a multitude of different character types while not becoming enamoured with stardom. RIP.

Well Gene Hackman having advanced Alzheimer's maybe was not aware his wife was dead.

Yes that was pretty clear, just surprising (to me anyway) that knowing he was at risk, that no family or friends were checking on them on a regular basis?

I guess the fact that they were a very private couple goes some way to explaining that, but somewhat sade that the daughters seem to be distant.
