I think they’re being generous with the term “mutual agreement” - agree or be sacked - there isn’t a great deal of difference in my view.

Anyway he’s gone - let’s hope whoever replaces Rooney does a better job, in fact it would be almost impossible to do worse.

Whether he was good or bad, we'll never really know. He was so beset with injuries, he didn't stand a chance. I, and many others don't think it was his fault. My biggest worry now is that he had a few players lined up for the transfer window - will they still come without him?

We now need a ruthless manager to get rid of the dross, with a lot of board support to replace them and save us. I'm convinced we won't do it, but really hope we can survive.

Plymouth appoint Austrian Muslic as new boss

Plymouth Argyle have appointed Miron Muslic as their new head coach.

The 42-year-old Austrian succeeds Wayne Rooney at the Championship's bottom club and has signed a three-and-a-half year deal.

Muslic was most recently the manager of Belgian side Cercle Brugge from September 2022 until his sacking last month.

The Bosnian-born former forward - who played much of his career in Austria - is the first-ever foreign manager or head coach to be employed by Argyle.

"Miron had a clear vision of how he wanted to take Argyle forward and showed a depth of tactical awareness that made it clear exactly how he wanted the team to set up and play," chairman Simon Hallett told the club website

"He comes with glowing reviews from his time at Cercle Brugge where he took a team from a lowly league position to European football which is no mean feat.

"I want to welcome him to the club and look forward to seeing him have an immediate impact on the team."

Argyle's interim manager Kevin Nancekivell will be part of Muslic's backroom team, with other coaching roles to be announced at a later date.

He will be in the stands for Saturday's FA Cup third round tie at Brentford before taking charge of his first game on Tuesday night when the Pilgrims host Oxford United in the Championship.................

Well it will be interesting to see how he gets on - his record is a bit of a mixed bag having done well initially, but recent results ended with him being sacked by Cercle Brugge.

Yes, its a tough job taking on a team already adrift at the bottom. He has the advantage of a few players returning to fitness (already reflected in slightly improving results), and the benefit of a few new signings. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. At the end of the day, it can't get any worse - not a hard act to follow. Neither Rooney nor Foster set the world on fire, although I'd have like to have seen Rooney given until the end of the season.

As I commented in The Herald (Plymouth Live) online, he will be wanting to do well, as he is a relative unknown, if not complete unknown in England. Managers like Rosenier, Wagner and even Schumacher are not interested in taking on what is effectively a job to possibly nothing, hope I am proved wrong. Muslic will want to do well as it is his break into English football, just wish him luck, it will be a tough ask. Lets also hope the signings can make an early impression on him and the Green Army.
