Yes, I really enjoyed that. Came with roast pork when I went.HarryVardon wrote: ↑Wed Dec 18, 2024 7:44 pm There is also usually Bubble & Squeak every Monday, made from the Sunday roast leftovers. Very good!

Have to say it looks quite the feast! How on earth you guys can handle that kind of meal in the Thai Climate is beyond me though

When in China, getting Pork was never an issue, but Beef or Lamb (unless paid for big style) was always a problem. Great to see you are getting parsnips - another one I missed whilst pretty much anywhere in Asia (the LHG is hooked here in the UK).

Parsnips (both me and the wife really like them) are definitely a rarity in Thailand and on the very few occasions I’ve seen them in Makro at Christmas, they have been so tiny and so expensive that I’ve not bothered - this year I have a cunning plan!!pharvey wrote: ↑Thu Dec 19, 2024 3:37 amHave to say it looks quite the feast! Where do you see beans ??404cameljockey wrote: ↑Thu Dec 19, 2024 7:53 amThe second photo artfully re-arranged to deflect criticism about only two roasties!![]()
Looks not half bad, but beans?
Re: Current Sunday Roast availability
2 Roasters (and a blue plate plate) normally indicates the small portion, which I find very adequate. Hopefully caller will confirm that is a small portion.404cameljockey wrote: ↑Thu Dec 19, 2024 7:53 am The second photo artfully re-arranged to deflect criticism about only two roasties!![]()

Yes would be nice to know. The top photo is identical to the bottom, but with the yorkie moved to reveal another roastie. The amount of meat looks like a large meal to me, but I've not been there.Big Boy wrote: ↑Thu Dec 19, 2024 8:22 am2 Roasters (and a blue plate plate) normally indicates the small portion, which I find very adequate. I think you'll find the blue plates are 'smaller' portions. Yes, they are still quite large, and I struggle to finish. Larger portions come on the larger white plates.404cameljockey wrote: ↑Thu Dec 19, 2024 8:38 am Yes would be nice to know. Its apple sauce, commonly eaten with pork in the UK. God help you if you thought of baked beans! The other item on the separate plate is cauliflower cheese.
My pic was taken long before Crusoes or whatever it's called. was mentioned here. Nothing was moved, just a 2nd pic taken from a slightly different angle to demonstrate the height of the dish. It was a bloody massive meal and by a country mile the best roast I have eaten in Thailand in 10 years of living here. The 2nd pic also shows, I have just realised, the edge of the pumkin, which was a real surprise as I thought I was cutting into a spud. It was lovely. There's also crackling on the plate, as well as stuffing. I think there were 4 roast tatties, but happy to be corrected. This was the large roast, you can order large or small.

Yes I may have apple sauce with roast pork, although usually I prefer English mustard (and always mustard in a cold leftover pork sandwich).
It looked red to me, hence my shock: baked beans with a roast!? But then my sister in law used to smother a roast in brown sauce, the absolute animal. I've been told long ago I have slight red/green colour blindness.

It was a strange colour - more orange to my eyes and not obvious at first sight that it was apple sauce, although definitely not baked beans despite the colour similarities!! I suppose that these days you can mix and match most things with a roast, although traditionally the mustard would go with beef (or horseradish) - both having quite a kick.404cameljockey wrote: ↑Fri Dec 20, 2024 6:38 amYes I may have apple sauce with roast pork, although usually I prefer English mustard (and always mustard in a cold leftover pork sandwich).

Re: Current Sunday Roast availability
It looks a good meal, I'll give it a try if I stop dieting next year, after six months my god I miss a roast lunch!
English mustard (but not horseradish) is also traditional with pork, not everyone likes a sweet condiment. The two of the four usual Sunday meats it fails with is lamb and chicken. Sharp mint sauce for lamb, can't accept mint jelly which is sweet and nasty, and for chicken well, nothing I can think of.
Is there a decent Sunday roast at McQuillans? When it was Raffertys it was always my go-to, good and quite local.
