Has High Season Arrived Early This Year

Post by Big Boy »

I remember years ago that the first 2 weeks of December was the lowest of low season. In the 80's it was possible to get 2 weeks holiday in Pattaya for £199, including flights, transfers and hotel, which was an indication of how low things got.

I've been noticing bars and restaurants around the Soi 94 area getting very busy already this month. I've eaten at Ga Hanoi the last 2 Mondays, and it was difficult to find an empty able. Also, looking into bars (my drinking days are virtually over), I've been noticing how busy they are becoming. Trying to find somewhere for breakfast has become a challenge, with many places full. Only this morning I drove past Morning Bread and Pat's place. I saw only one empty table between the 2 establishments.

Am I passing these places at a very good time, or are the tourists arriving extra early this season? Business is looking very good for what used to be the holiday doldrums.

Last Thursday and today are national holidays, and some may have connected the two for a very long weekend. That may be some of what you've been seeing.

It could be.

I can't use my usual yardstick of how many abreast they are walking down Soi 94 this year. The Tessebahn wrecking team have done such a good job on Soi 94 that if people walk more than 2 abreast, somebody will most likely disappear down an open drain.

Hua Hin is holding people prisoner as they don't want to drive home on Rama II !?

I found it harder to get a reasonably priced flight in late November than I have in the past.

Your fault for raving about their potato wedges?

Not sure about High Season having arrived but it's definitely busier than last year. I live quite centrally in town and there are more Western tourists about.

It can’t be because of flight incentives as I just put a dummy dates in for UK to Thailand return, 14-28 December and it was £1600 on Thai - crazy prices!!

Holy crap, that price is sickening. For that kind of money, far better places to visit over Xmas surely.

I’ve no doubt you can get cheaper non-direct flights, but it’s definitely not a cheap destination any more - pre pandemic it was normally in the £5-600 area.

Yes, I've just done a few searches and the UK is ridiculously expensive for some reason, you can get flights out of Europe for those dates for about half of that.
