I've just been emptying my wallet of some of the rubbish that accumulates. One of the things I've removed is this:

tickets.jpg
tickets.jpg (66.43 KiB) Viewed 1009 times

For Ratchaburi FC (Thai League 1) cup matches, I always receive free tickets, which I usually throw in the bin, and it seems such a waste. If there's anybody out there who would like to try watching one of Thailand's top football teams, free of charge, just let me know, and we can share fuel costs (usually 600฿ divided by number of passengers to Ratchaburi, return). Next cup game is Wednesday 29 January vs Thai Navy. First come, first served.

IMHO Ratchaburi Stadium is pound for pound the top stadium in Thailand - it may not be as large as maybe the Chang Arena, but it is definitely a better stadium, and totally built for football.

This offer applies for any home cup game. If you're fast enough, entrance will be free. Similarly, although admission won't be free, you are welcome to join us for any league game. Next home league fixture is not until 19 January as it is now the mid-season break. PM me, and I will provide details/make arrangements.

This Thai League now, you have a feel for quantity of foreign players to Thai players? I know in the distant past foreign players were a novelty.

Yes, most foreign players come here to basically retire, but extending their playing careers by 3 or 4 years also. They command a half-decent wage and often put in a good shift as well. They command higher wages than Thais, so management have to sign wisely to ensure value for money - they have to be better than a Thai player.

Basically, finding a decent Thai striker or central defender is as rare as rocking horse droppings. Foreign players are brought in to fill these gaps, and despite being old, there are some decent footballers amongst them. Probably useless in their own countries higher leagues, but treasures in Thailand.

The big finds though are the Leuk Kreungs. They are often larger and stronger than their pure Thai brothers, but are making quite an impact compared with their pure Thai brothers. I think there were either 6 or 8 Leuk Kreungs called up in to the next national squad. In league teams, they are limited in how many foreigners they can field, but many Leuk Kreungs have the same attributes, but no limitations. They often appear in the Thai League at a much younger age seeking national recognition.

Overall, I would consider a Thai T1 team to be a middle to bottom of the Championship standard. However, it is all relative, and you can see some pretty decent live football in Thailand. The one thing in Thailand that is even rarer than a decent Thai striker is crowd trouble. I must have been to hundreds of live football matches all over Thailand from Chiang Rai to Nakhon Si Thammarat. I've never yet seen any crowd trouble that was not drink related, and always Thai on Thai. The worst being on our own doorstep when the Prachuap Chairman led a drunken attack on the Hua Hin City team, which hospitalised some Hua Hin players. Outside of that, I've seen nothing worse than one on one stuff, which wasn't tribal.

The number of foreign players permitted varies from division to division and can quite complicated. It is divided by Foreign, Asian and ASEAN. Numbers permitted changes each season, but as a general rule, up to 7 in higher divisions, up to 3 in T3 and 0 in the semi-professional league (these numbers may be wrong, but will be close).
