Disability Parking Permit

I started this thread almost 8 years ago, and we concluded there was no such beast in Thailand.

I've been to HHH with Mrs BB this morning, and they have told her to get registered as disabled. Not because of her periodic leg problems, not because of her breathing problems, but because she has a hearing problem .

She was given a letter, which she had to take to the Tessebahn. Tessebahn will now request the permit from Prachuap Khiri Khan, Provincial HQ, which will take about a month.

It is strange, because I've been using disabled facilities fairly regularly since about 2018, and have never been questioned.

Disabled Car Parking spaces. There are other advantages that go with it though, which make it worthwhile, and most likely why they aren't given out generally. Quite a strange beast actually, and no wonder they aren't given out freely. Even stranger that it was a hearing impairment that tipped the balance.

I was just amazed that such a beast existed - I'd never heard of one in Thailand.

What do they give you, a blue/white plastic "Wheelchair" card with a loop at the top to hang from your inside rear view mirror?

Mrs BB has just picked her disability permit up. It is almost identical to her regular ID card, but with a few extra details on it, and no smart chip.

There are a few disability options on the card, for which she would most likely qualify for between 3 and 5 reasons. The only disability listed is hearing though.

Did she get to keep the 'real' card as well? Because having the chip is very handy at times for Thais for electronic proof of id. Seems like not having a chip is a bit like social relegation, though not as far down as the foreigner pink card.
