Selling My Car - Honda City 2012

Post by hhinner »

I'm thinking about selling my (ie wife's) car and would like to ask for some advice on how to approach the sale.

It's a Honda City 2012. Manual gear.

I'd like to get the best price I can, but also don't want to spend too much doing up all the little signs of wear and tear that 12 years of use brings. Such as signs of wear on interior trim - colour fading and the like.

Also, while the exterior is pretty much OK there are still blemishes such as the "scratch" marks that manifest next to the door handles and the occasional shallow scratch caused by vegetation on narrow roads.

The car is pretty low mileage (< 102,000 km) for its age and has been regularly serviced by Honda, mostly based on time intervals rather than kilometers driven.

So, how much should I reckon to spend on beautification before it becomes wasted money that doesn't provide any sale price advantage, bearing in mind possible sale value between 200,000 and 250,000 baht?

Also the car is due for a service now (180,000 km, cost 4,700 baht).

Plus we are about to renew the first class insurance (approx 10,000 baht).

Any opinions, please?

Thanks.

Get a Red Book valuation online before deciding on the asking price.

If you're getting another Honda you could trade it in at the dealership, but typically what the dealerships do is to get a secondhand dealer come in and take it off their hands. The secondhand dealers will give you a fairly quick sale, but you probably will get less than the market value as they want their margin too.
The last option is to list it for sale, I have used taladrod dot com with success, you can list it for free but handle the sale yourself. And wait. And wait. I eventually did get the price I wanted. Granted, it was a long time ago, but those are your options.

Thanks. I've already asked at Honda. What they offer seems designed to put you off.

I'm not in that much of a hurry that I can't wait, so approx how long did it take for you to get your price?

Yes, Ford were the same. When I moved here my intention was to renew my car every 2/3 years. The Ford offer was such an insult, I'm still driving the same car 12 years on (and very happy that I've stuck with it).
