Sorry to disappoint, but I have no hatred for the English or their teams - I just enjoy extracting the urine (which in itself is a mark of respect :D  ).

Not a clue how the "Wheelbarrow Anthem" winds up opposing fans, but it is football after all I guess.... :duck:

I have watched England play football in Scottish pubs, where I've been afraid to ask for a beer in case somebody recognised my English accent. I have also been stood in a car park in Cardiff after a Wales vs England game where the rabid Welsh fans wanted a part of us. I have experienced that hatred first hand in 2 neighbouring countries.

Not a clue how the "Wheelbarrow Anthem" winds up opposing fans, but it is football after all I guess.... :duck: Believe me, after a while it does your head in. Look how innocent the 3 Lions anthem is, but people become absolutely sick of it.

Crickey BB - are all us Welsh classed as "Rabid" then? I'm sorry you (and I guess John) experienced that in Cardiff - and Scotland, mind you the latter do have an immense dislike for the Red Rose. But we shouldn't all be judged by a few morons - I've experienced the "darker side" of certain people in England and several other places, but don't tar them all with the same brush.

Anywho, :offtopic: I'm sure the "Three Kittens'" time will come in the not-to-distant future - perhaps even the World Cup, 60th Anniversary and all....

There’s no guarantee that a new manager will be any more successful than Southgate - we’ll have to wait and see if/when Southgate resigns (I don’t see him being sacked) and who his replacement is - as sure as chickens lay eggs, you can guarantee he (or she) will not be universally endorsed!!

No, in fact we had a Welsh gentleman travel down from Kanchanaburi yesterday, just to watch the match/support England with us.

That Cardiff experience was long before John's time. I don't th I was going to say he'd never experienced football violence, but he was about 13 when he went to watch Bristol Rovers vs Swansea with a mate. You can probably guess the rest - he and his mate were half way down a road with Rovers fans marching from one end and Swansea fans marching from the other. They were literally rescued from no-man's land by the police. Of course, I don't know if that was just inter-city or international rivalry.

I do actually class the Welsh hatred as banter, but certainly there are many very anti-English Scots. I can assure you if it was Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland or Eire in the final yesterday, we'd have been cheering them on unless the opposition was England :D.

Winning the Euros or the World Cup is a massive ask. I am always hopeful, but never surprised when beaten. But I do enjoy banter. IMHO its the best part of football, or any competition. Never upset for more than a couple of hours at defeat. There's only one winner.

It's certainly been said that the FA want him to say, but he's also said that he feels he's lost the support of the UK  English fans. I personally can't see him staying - how long to sort out a new Manager and agree the extortionate salary that will be asked I wonder? The World Cup is a full 2 years away, but what time/matches do the teams have before then?

Apparently the 2026 qualifiers begin in March 2025 so during the forthcoming season - plenty of time to get a new manager in post - according to the bookies the current front runners are Graham Potter and Eddie Howe - neither of whom have a fantastic track record!!

Just going back to this quickly. You mention Bristol - I moved to school between Bath/Bristol (Keynsham) in the early 80's and there was a huge hatred of the Welsh. Perhaps just due to some living in Wales but working in Avonmouth/Bristol and perceived at stealing jobs - ZIP to do with sport, but just making a point.

You also mention it's years before John's time, and then of course football violence at it's worse. The likes of Swansea "Wendyball" Supporters were notorious with violence back in the day and hated by the vast majority of the Welsh - the same could be said for Cardiff supporters at the time. After all, we are and will remain a "Rugby Nation" (despite how crap we are at the moment   ).

Rugby in general has in no way the same degree/amount of moronic supporters of the round ball game (worldwide - not aimed at the English) - hence we don't see the violence/racism there (though of course there are the brain dead minorities).

I for one wish England "The Three Kittens" (sorry can't help myself) the very best for the World Cup - I just hope Wales can manage to qualify!!

I know we've had the discussion before, and it is doing exactly what its meant to. It is football banter at its best, designed to wind supporters from other nations up. It's all a bit of fun at the end of the day. A wind-up anthem that is so effective with such longevity. It would have been awful if we'd won yesterday - we'd have had to find a new wind up anthem.
I don't quite agree. I suppose I understand it's meant to wind up supporters from countries that play against you in the finals but me and many of my friends come from a country (countries) that are not in the finals. What it does for us is instead of supporting England, we choose another country to support. Not that it probably has any meaning to the English. This is just to clarify our feelings. We feel it's so arrogant. Naturally, you may or may not choose to understand that. Sorry.

BG - the English ARE Arrogant, always believe it's their "God Given Right" to success apparently as it always has been (well not for 58 years in Wendyball) - that's why we love to so-call "hate" and extract the urine from them. Come now, we can giggle away when the US Tournament comes in a couple of years and they celebrate their "60th"...

We Welsh don't profess to being great at Wendyball, but of course we've been cheated out of our Number One Status as a Rugby Nation purely due to those damn referees and others who want to see us fail

Don't ever let it get you down or annoy you BG, it truly is Banter. And I still can't stand Lineker!! :D  :duck:

[EDIT] Love the "X" Post... :D

The "Kittens" of course have a very talented squad, but again - vastly overpaid Prima Donnas. Southgate seems to have brought them together but failed at the last hurdle. Will another coach control the petulant attitudes of some of the younger players? That could well be their downfall in my book - I'm assuming some of the "senior players" will not be there in a couple of years, including "Captain Kane"....

Kane is almost 31 so in theory could continue until the World Cup - the question is, has he been carrying an injury or has the decline set in - we’ll know well before the qualifiers start but probably a good idea to find new blood now, together with a number of other changes (Walker as a prime example).

Ok, my last comment on this one. Obviously, maybe it's the language barrier, I cannot make myself understood. I used to support the England team from an early age, I grew up watching English football and followed it closely, I still do. But as I previously said, banter to me is when you do it to someone who supports another team. To me, this is just not it as I used to be on England's side before this, well, you know what, started. I take lost's Spuds vs Arsenal as banter and it doesn't bother me. I can understand that and it's ok. This one to me is what I've told you many times. Now let's stop this ball game. I will not change my mind, and you guys won't change yours, let's accept it and move on. :)

Do you not see, we are laughing at ourselves? We know the chances of it coming home are very remote, but we persist in singing the song.
