2019 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport facelift: Thai prices and specs

https://www.bangkokpost.com/auto/171867 ... -and-specs

Prices for Triton-based SUV falls in 2WD guise to cope Ford Everest and Toyota Fortuner.

Mitsubishi Motors Thailand has facelifted the Pajero Sport and given it more features to remain competitive in the pickup-based SUV market.

The front face has been tweaked to come in line with the Triton pickup, the donor vehicle of the Pajero Sport. They include slimmer head lights and new fog lamp inserts. The rear light cluster is also slightly different than in the pre-facelift model.

While the seven-seat interior is the same as before, the centre console has been redesigned to accommodate a new 8in information display with smartphone connection and electronic parking brake with automatic hold function.

While new driving aids for the Pajero Sport comprise of lane-change assist and rear cross-traffic alert, the tailgate now has a power operation for ease of use.

The drivetrain remains unchanged: 181hp 2.4-litre diesel-turbo, eight-speed automatic and the brand’s Super Select 4WD system.

As competitors have realigned their pricing, the Pajero Sport’s prices in 2WD form have dropped from 1.301-1.544 million to 1.299-1.469 million baht. The starting price matches those of the 180hp Ford Everest and 150hp Toyota Fortuner.

Due to more kit, the price of the 4WD version has risen from 1.544 million to 1.599 million baht. However, the range-topping Pajero Sport is cheaper than the similarly equipped Everest.

Do any of you have experince with earlier, say 2015 / up to the facelift 2018 models? Dannie boy I know that you have had one, but which year? Pete, I think that you may also have, or have had one.

Not looking to buy one just now, but looking for any expensive known problems.

I had a 2015/16 model 4wd and sold it just under 2 year’s ago. It was low mileage as I spent 18 months of the time I had it working in the UAE, but other than routine servicing never paid a Baht for repairs. The only repair they did was to change the daytime running lights but that was covered under warranty.

Although the driving dynamics were very much “Big SUV” type, I thoroughly liked it and on the rare occasions that I needed 7 seats, it was a fantastic workhorse (well people carrier).

I have 2014 Pajero. Bought it at 2 years old. Always been serviced at Mitsu in Cha-am. Never had a problem with repairs. The only things I've changed over the years are wiper blades, battery and tyres plus the normal 'wear and tear' parts found during servicing. Very pleased with it.

I'm still clunking around in my 2015. Small electronic problems from time to time, sensors etc, but nothing serious.

However, the emergency brake motor gave out a few weeks ago in the locked position, and the Mitsu guy simply released it with his computer hookup and advised not to turn the switch on until the motor is replaced, or it will lock up again. Motor is 20,000 baht so it will probably never be replaced.

Overall a very reliable ride, but with anything age will start to niggle you, especially the electronics. My engine is 2.4 diesel and it flies.

Thanks Pete. Bloody electric parking brakes! Not on my Land Rover, but the later model Discoveries also have have a similar parking brake. To repair them it is a body OFF job!

My old bones don't have any electronics, but definitely starting to niggle and fail!

I had an earlier one as well, I think 2009 or 10. Hardly any electronics on that one, still had an actual ignition key! That one didn't have the diesel that's in the one I have now. I want to say 2.5 non-turbo but I'm not sure.

I changed a lot of things on that one. Put disc brakes on the back and larger discs on the front as the brakes on that model were crap. Hard stop and you lost the entire pedal into the floor. Also changed all the shocks and other suspension items. I think I put what I call a sway bar on the front as it was terrible when cornering. You felt like the thing was going to fall over.

All those complaints were gone by the time I got the 2015.

Note: The 2015 I have is turbo diesel I believe without going to the book to look it up. It certainly accelerates like one from standing stop or passing.

Yes that was the only engine available in Thailand as far as I’m aware (some markets offered a V6 petrol). As a diesel, it wasn’t a bad unit, reasonably powerful without too much “diesel rattle” and with an 8-speed auto box, reasonably economical.

I laugh a bit as this thread reminded me of a Toyota diesel pick up I had here where I had to push a glow plug button for several seconds before starting it. WOW, how time flies I guess.

It's diesel 2.4 and as Pete says, acceleration beats most when in front waiting for a green light. I've a friend who has the petrol version who's also happy apart from the price of petrol.

I am a bit confused by the following. I guess that it may only apply to production in Japan, but that is not what it says:

RIP Mitsubishi Pajero: production to end next year

The Mitsubishi Pajero will reach the end of the production line in 2021 after a 39-year run and more than 3.3 million sales globally, the Japanese car maker has confirmed.

Pajero and Pajero Sport different vehicles. Pajero in it's prime was a regular winner of the Baja 500 and other endurance wilderness races. Much tougher and quality specs than the Pajero Sport. Actually I think the Pajero started off as a Japanese military vehicle in WWII.

To my knowledge it's not even sold here unless imported.
