Replacement car options

Hi,

It is time, actually way past time, that I replaced my current car.

So what are my options?

Not keen on buying new as I possibly couldn't afford it, worried about buying pre-owned, in case I'm just buying someone else's problems.

What about leasing? Is that a viable option here?

We're usually only here for 9 months of the year, so would a long term car hire be any good?

Just looking for any help or advice.

I agree there are much cheaper options than Hahuahin's recommendations, but the reason I haven't jumped in is the OP hasn't really said what he's looking for in his leased motor. If for example he wants an ORA Good Cat, there will not be many companies that will provide that on lease. Likewise (and I don't know this), HHTel's 10K motor may be worse than the car the OP is looking to retire.

Before we can realistically offer solutions, we need to know the full question.

I believe that U-Drive's cars are not older than 2020 so unlikely to get a problem.

It still depends upon what the OP is looking for. Yes, you may get a Vios for that sort of money, but he may be looking for a lot more.

Thanks for the replies, genuinely appreciated.

To try and clarify my what I need, and what I can do without.

First and foremost I would like a safe and reliable car. I don't want to have to worry about getting to my destination or home again.

I don't require the all singing, all dancing, state of the art add-ons ..... I wouldn't have a clue how to operate them!

Remote central locking would be nice, so that I don't lock myself out the car (again) and electric windows would be good. My wife likes listening to the radio, so I guess that's pretty essential!

We don't do a lot of miles, perhaps from Palm hills into Hua Hin 6 times a week, and 3 or 4 trips up towards Cha-Am and that's pretty much that. Oh and short trips for something to eat of an evening, usually very local i.e. Soi 6 or Soi 2

There is usually only two of us ....please don't suggest a motor bike as my sense of balance makes that a non-starter

Anyway I hope this gives a clearer idea of what I'm looking for.

What car did you have at present? It may be worth your while just to get it repaired/refurbished and give it a couple more years of life.
If looking for a replacement (2ndhand), get an automatic with the standard torque converter gearbox, not those CVT transmissions. Or, if like me, I'd get the elusive manual gearbox.
Make sure none of the tail light or front light clusters have LEDs in them. If these fail, you replace the whole cluster ($$$!!), not just the bulb.
Also, get something with an up to date service history with a dealership. Or decent workshop.
Also, personal opinion, get a standard petrol engined car, electrics are still not quite there yet in terms of convenience.
I've got a16 year old Nissan I intend to keep, Nereus has quite an old Landy he has difficulty letting go of, so I'd consider keeping what you have, newer is not always better.

Yes, but it is 4WD, so 1HP is enough.

I've thought about replacing our 84 Mercedes but it still runs well. That's my only criterion for a car. We only use to go grocery shopping in Hua Hin, so it will probably outlast me. If the vehicle runs well I don't understand replacing it every couple of years.
